Xavier watched as Leila ran off to the other shifted wolves. He knew wolves tended to enjoy each other's company on the full moon, and nothing would happen to Leila even though she did not know the others.
However, he could not help the worry that coursed through his veins.
He did not like taking chances with Leila's safety. The more he discovered about the strange origins of her life, the more he was afraid of losing her. It felt like it would take only one small accident for her to disappear forever.
If he could, he would hide her away and wrap her up so that she would not lose even a strand of hair on her head. He would put one hundred guards and impenetrable wards around her to keep danger away.
He looked at Leila as she joined the playful and almost harmonious howling among the other shifted wolves. Despite the fact that she did not have a human face, he could feel her excitement.
