A weight settled in my chest and pressed down into my stomach. Fear crept into my body. I could barely follow Alexander's movements with Damian staring at me with that smug smile that I hated with everything within me.
A month ago, I wanted to desperately smack that smile off his lips, but breaking my knees and my arm joints countless times just for making eye contact was enough to completely erase that thought.
Now, my body wouldn't even listen to me telling myself that he can't hurt me anymore. At least, not when I'm with Alexander.
I almost tripped on Alexander's foot but his strong arm around my waist held me in place. Perplexed, I looked at his somewhat unreadable face as he suddenly stopped moving.
"What's wrong, Penelope?" he asked, helping me stand properly.
The music stopped playing when the king stopped moving, and the crowd started murmuring because of the King's abrupt stop when we had barely reached halfway through the music.
