Chapter 61 - LXI ||| Blood of the Innocents

What, from the bottom of my bloody heart, the hell?

I don't like where this is going.

I don't like it at all!

"You were awakened once a month. I was awakened twice a month. Twenty four times a year. Every two weeks either my mother or my father would go to the Royal crypt where we stay during stasis, and open my ruby coffin, as ruby is the only gem that heightens the power of a vampire and it resonates with our bloodthirsty nature. They had high expectations for me as the first son of the Strauss-Khan bloodline, which all the Vampire Court believed to be the strongest of all time. So, instead of the normal 250 years royal and noble vampires stay in stasis for, they kept me there 970 years."

"Normally, you are sent into stasis at 5 years old, not 7 like in your case. The power of stasis was a discovery that came from my kind, and the others just adapted it for them, all to have more power. That's also were the vampires-sleep-in-coffins tale came from. Nevertheless, the coffins have to be made of a precious gem that enhances your kind's power. Rubies for vampires, gold for dragons, diamond for seraphins, obsidian for the witches, moonstone for shifters, turquoise for sirens, peridot for elves, amethyst for fairies, onyx for krakens, opal for giants, and beyond."

"Only born vampires can go into stasis, and they are automatically set as nobles, Royals being those of the strongest bloodlines. Made vampires are made when a vamp bite you and pour their venom into your blood system with the intent of turning you into one, and it takes easily in humans, which helped with the fact that we are the race with the biggest population. Nevertheless only 20% of the vampire population is of born vamps, and they can walk in the sun as long as they don't drink a person's blood directly from the source, while made vampires can't walk on the sun at all and neither can they see their reflexes or even drink anything but blood."

"They are unruly and have no control over their strength, which makes them dangerous, but thankfully, they can't make more vampires. The made, as we normally call it, can't shift into bats, control animals, compel those of lesser strength, or wield magic beyond the four elementals; though they have everything else," uh… he can control animals and compel people like with hypnosis? "The stronger you are, the strongest your abilities will be, both your born vampire's ones and what you get by stasis. My parents happen to be unparalleled strong."

"Mother has the strongest animal control ability in vampire history, being able to use them as her personal spies and have eyes everywhere to gather information, as information is power. Father, on the other hand, is more dangerous, he has the strongest hypnosis ever, and only can't control those of equal or higher power as his. Mom and him are equals, Meredith is stronger. Everyone else can fall for his compelling abilities, and do all he wants them to, no matter if they don't want to. If Darius Khan gets his hands on you, you lose your will and can't fight for yourself, only for him," his voice began to sound distant.

As if he wasn't here. As if his mind was elsewhere entirely.

"Both with outstanding special abilities. Darius having telekinesis, illusion magic, telepathy, memory magic, shadow magic, darkness magic, and blood magic. Violet having telekinesis, telepathy, dream magic, gravity magic, and sky magic that allows her to control the weather and clouds," okay, that sounds like an awful lot.

"With an insatiable and mindless hunger for power, Darius and Violet craved to create an ultimate weapon, a vampire that would take all they have, that would inherit all of their genes and more, that would have a power to shake the earth, to be reckoned with. Something Meredith would not able to handle, as they always despised the fact that a dragon was above them in the Ministry, and that she's stronger."

He inhaled my scent, tightening his grip on me, "Me. I was what they needed, and they were open to sacrifice a lot to make me become the monster they craved me to be. That was why they searched in ancient books of the vampires of the old world, to find a way to make me stronger in a shorter amount of time, instead of leaving me in stasis for thousands of years," like me. "Put the vampire in the coffin while covered in the blood of pure… born vampires who… never killed anyone, covering them entirely like in a bathtub."

Gulping, I hugged him tighter.

"Hel, pure born vampires who never killed anyone meant children who have yet to go into stasis. Five-year-old to less," his voice cracked and I felt his heartbeats racing, his breathing unsteady. "And it… it gets worse. For it to work, it has to be the blood of two kids and not just one, whom the subject of the stasis has a deep emotional link too," oh no.

Oh no. "Oli…" I clenched my jaw.

"Octavia Flora Winslow and Sebastian Valentin Faye. They were my age, we grew up together and they were my best friends, the siblings of my age I always wanted to have. My parents treated them like family, but it was all a show, Hel, all for them and for Via and Bash's parents, both who are cruel Grand Dukes of the Vampire Court and shared my parents beliefs, and offered their children as sacrifices just for me to get a better magic on stasis. And when the day for it to happen came, Violet held me tight in her arms, as Darius murdered them in cold blood right in front of my eyes, because being in despair supposedly would make their blood even more effective for me to be drowned into. Then, he collected all of their blood in a bucket as if my friends were but mere bloody chickens for slaughter."

"All I used to have were my friends and my five siblings, whom my parents made sure I would grow up with, they made… they made sure I also would care and love them, which I did with all my heart. They needed me to be an innocent child before they put me through a bloody hell of losses, because anger is the strongest emotion and the one who's able to bring out the strongest powers out of you. Be it anger towards them… or myself. All because anger is anger nonetheless."

"Then came the secret potion that was the key of the stasis itself, and it was made of ruby powder, belladonna, black mamba's poison, siren's tears, demonic pomegranate, white opal powder, obsidian powder, ashes of a sun-burned born vampire who had killed at least a hundred people, half a liter of each of both of my parents' blood, all cooked in the red flame of corruption my father happened to possess. It's never the same for any races, but this the key they found in the ancient books, to make their experiment strong. To make me strong."

I held back a gag of disgust, because that shite is disgusting. I can't even imagine what Meredith put into mine. I don't want to either.

"The next step for plan to work, was to wake me up from my stasis, feed me that disgusting shite on the 14th and 28th day of each month of the year, as well as an extra dose on my birthday, March 25th," exactly ten days from mine. "Making so in March I would have to be awaken thrice and drink it twice on the 14th, 25th and 28th, overwhelming my body in a manner that could potentially break my magic core before it was stabilized, which didn't happen."

"Siren's tears are known as the Elixir of Eternal Consciousness, it made so I would never be able to quiet down my mind no matter what was happening. You probably had that too, Hel, it's the only thing that can cause such a side effect, which is needed for the subject of the stasis to get a rare kind of magic. If consumed in larges quantities, causes a defection on the part of our brain that makes our mind go to sleep, thus we are unable to ever do so, unless something unusual happens, such as the first time Felix's uses his ability on you. And I'm starting to believe the consummation of the mating bond, when complete, also does that. Given what happened to us."

"Though it lasted longer on you, probably because I've been more times exposed to Felix's magic. But regardless, it's rare. The elixir is not made to be used like that, and that fucks our brain up during stasis. Make so you are always thinking even when your body is unconscious, and doing so allows the anger to take over your mind more devastatingly. It happened to you, it happened with me too," his words made my heart clench.

The idea of him going through the same emotional pain I did sounds horrifying, makes me want to kill his parents, to cure his wounds, to make him stop hurting. But I can't even do that for myself, how could I possibly help my mate with his pain? I don't know what to do beside hugging him tight and holding up my tears as hard as I possibly can.

And with every word he said, it felt as if a blade was impaling me.

"With waking me up to drink the potions, came the psychological torture. I never suffered physically like you did, Hel, but I do understand about the mental struggles. Darius would use his memory and illusion magic together to temporarily mess up with my memories of the events when Via and Bash were killed by him, to make me see them being killed by someone else. In this vision, however, Violet is never holding me, Darius is nowhere to be seen either, and I would get so insanely devastated and furious by seeing my friends die, that I would launch myself at the person."

"This went on for three hundred years. Every time it would be a different person in my father's place. I would jump on them, push them away of the illusion of my dead friends, and I would destroy them. I ripped their throats open, sucked them dry of their blood, and ripped their hearts from their chests. But every time the illusion ended, there would be an innocent child's dead body on my arms, and I would be covered in their blood. Every single time, it would be a five-year old, the same age as I was physically, and the age my friends were when they died." No… no way…

"Seven thousand and five hundred innocent five-year-olds made vampires in the first three hundred years. Every time, Darius would bring my memories of the true events back and make me despair about the fact that I had just done what he did to Via and Bash. That I had lost control and killed little children, and drank them all dry. Over, and over, and over again. On the 7501st time, nevertheless, it wasn't an innocent recent-made vampire child that I killed. It was Vernon, my oldest brother."
