Chapter 5 - Union. - part2

- Why don't they teach these methods? I had no idea there was another way besides the first one, my father didn't say anything either. - Said Allan.

- Of course, you didn't know, your father can't tell you even if he does know, at least not until the day before you need to use the knowledge, and you'll still need to sign a contract to learn just one of these ways. - Jonathan answered, then looked into Allan's eyes and continued. - Allan, you'll understand the importance of not divulging these methods once you know how dangerous they are. Well, their attractiveness will become clear during the explanation. - Jonathan stopped staring into Allan's eyes as he organized his thoughts, he was confused as to how to explain. But in the end, he chose to be as direct and brief as possible.

Allan, the upcoming explanation of the normal form grants us basic abilities. For instance, an individual with a fire element soul will gain the ability to control and generate flames following the fusion process. This applies to all elements without exception. Furthermore, due to the infusion of spiritual power, this element can inflict harm upon demons, which are souls inhabiting bodies, and it is thanks to this ability that we have been able to fight and endure until now. It's a rather straightforward concept, and you should be familiar with it by now, correct? - Jonathan stated.

- Yes, it´s method my father said for me. – Answer Allan.

Jonathan said. - Great, so you know the basics at least. - He paused, then reached into his bag and pulled out a bottle of water. Ignoring Allan's anxiety, he calmly drank the water and continued after taking a few sips.

- The other 2 methods differ as they offer more than just elemental or conceptual self-control. For instance, the Lux family doesn't control the thunder element by affinity; we manage it differently. Our basic element is always random like everyone else's; my father's is water, for example, which is quite effective in combat. - Jonathan recalled his father battling possessed animals. His father would envelop his foes in a thin layer of water and summon thunder from the sky, a truly awe-inspiring and terrifying sight.

As Jonathan rambled on, remembering his father defending the northern region of Clypeus, his colleague was stunned. Allan didn't even know what to say, and after a few moments of shock, he asked with a slightly altered tone of voice that showed his shock. - Jonathan, can I have two abilities too? Is it possible to control two elements? - Allan asked.

Jonathan immediately turned his attention to Allan, and upon seeing the anticipation on his face, he couldn't help but laugh. With a smile still on his face, Jonathan explained. - It's not what you're thinking. It's related to the process after the union begins. In my family, we refer to it as a contract. We call it that because it's a transaction with a God. I know it sounds strange, but if you know the name of a God during your union process, you can ask for a test. If you pass, you'll gain the right to use your magic. In my family's case, we made a contract with a Tupi God called Tupã. He taught us how to use the energy of the soul to control thunder, as well as the ability to use roots and leaves for healing to a certain extent. - Jonathan explained.

- Contact a god? - Allan looked at Jonathan with a confused look as he processed the information he had just received, after all, knowledge about gods is not as widespread as knowledge about demons, and thanks to this he couldn't understand what the boy, who was now sipping water with the same calm and disinterested expression, was saying. - Honestly, I don't understand what you're saying... But wouldn't that be a good thing? I mean, wouldn't we basically be stronger? That would be good for everyone, why not teach everyone then? - Allan asked.

- I think the main reason is the risk, as I said there is a test. Although the tests never change, there is some kind of restriction that only allows information about the test to be passed on to the blood descendants of those who pass, and some gods don't even allow this. So, it's impossible to know what the test will be, and so few people manage to pass. And if you don't pass... - Jonathan stopped talking at this point. He remembered his cousin who failed the test two years ago, so he shook his head slightly and spoke. - Allan, the benefits of the test may seem incredible and all, but if you fail during the process, you enter a kind of vegetative state. I don't know the exact reason, and neither do the doctors, but as far as I know, if you don't manage to complete the test, after you wake up there's a period of exactly 24 hours before you get that way... Also, if you said to tell what's in the test, you'll instantly go into a vegetative state, so it doesn't matter if you pass the test or not. - Jonathan said.

- But didn't you say that we can pass on the test information to people of the same blood? - Allan asked.

- Yes, you're right if they're descendants of the individual, and only descendants are included in this rule, or at least that's what we know so far. - Jonathan replied.

- Correcting my sentence, then, would be. Everyone who passes the test and tries to pass on the information immediately fades away and goes into a vegetative state. Apart from people who have passed the test and passed it on to their children, grandchildren, and others. - Jonathan said. After a brief pause to drink some water, he said. - Well, that's usually the case. There are some gods who don't allow the details of the test to be mentioned in any way, one example is the Greek god Zeus. They say that he is very volatile and temperamental and forbids any information to be passed on. Of course, there are others besides him who act in the same way, although I don't know which ones they are since I don't have much interest in them. - Jonathan said as he shook the water bottle, watching the water at its bottom where a small vortex was threatening to form.

Allan was shocked and unsure how to approach the situation. He was certain that he wouldn't choose the second method, deeming it too risky. - Jonathan, the second method seems too uncertain, and I lack the knowledge about gods to take that chance. Gaining those powers would be amazing, but considering the risk, I don't have the courage to do this. - Allan said with a forced smile, indicating his embarrassment. Despite feeling embarrassed, he was not willing to jeopardize his life. With a slightly flushed face, he asked, - Jonathan, you mentioned a third method. Could you explain what it is and how it works?

- I don't know much about this one, but it differs from the first one in that you apparently get a teacher. - said Jonathan.

- A teacher? What do you mean by a teacher? - Allan asked.

- From what my father told me, this method is also a test and if you pass you get a teacher and if you fail you just forget about the test. Teachers are humans who have learned to use their powers better, or just discarded their abilities and learned to manipulate energy directly from what I've heard, we can basically call them ancient legends. Hercules is one of these, for example. He's the teacher of a German who's a bit older than us. - Jonathan said.

- So, they will teach us magic like the Gods if we pass the tests? – Allan asked.

- Not exactly, the powers of the Gods are extremely great, so they only give us a part and we can use it from the start. The "teachers", on the other hand, don't give you anything except knowledge. Some may give you other things if you want, like an inheritance, or make you part of their family, but this only creates a bond between you and doesn't give you power. That is, at least, as far as I know. - Jonathan said.

- I didn't fully grasp it, but it appears to be inferior to the gods. In compensation your risks are lower, correct?

- Well, you're partly right. The risks are usually lower, but there are some as strong as gods and their risks or prices are higher than those of the gods. It basically depends on luck. - Jonathan said.

- Luck? Don't you just call on the weakest and learn from them? - Allan asked.

- Not really, in this method the teacher chooses you and applies the test before you meet him. If you pass the test, he will teach you in exchange for a condition. - Jonathan said as he stared at Allan. He thought for a second before adding. - Although I don't know much about this method, I do know that in order to achieve it you need to reject all the gods you meet during the bonding process, in fact it's more effective if you insult them which doesn't work much since they don't seem to have feelings most of the time, of course, if you're crazy enough to insult someone like Zeus who is known for looking like a tantrum Ing child your chances of success are as great as your chances of death. - Said Jonathan while smiling slightly. - That's quite peculiar, and a bit dangerous. Although the gods can't do anything to you personally without paying a price, they could still send one of their contractors after you without too many repercussions. - Said Jonathan with a smile still on his face.

- Jonathan, so if I choose this way...

- ARTHUR!
