Old Mrs. Pierson sat alone in the seat of her study, enveloped in silence. She kept her gaze fixed on the spot where Zoren had previously sat. Normally, she would have gone to bed once Zoren left, but she chose to remain here, pondering Zoren's inquiry.
"An illegitimate child that isn't in the family registry," she whispered, her wrinkled eyes narrowing at the thought. "That is impossible."
Everyone who married into the Pierson family, even males marrying female descendants of the Piersons, had to take the Pierson family name. This was the reason the family had grown so large. Despite that, Old Mrs. Pierson had kept a close eye on everyone marrying into the family.
Old Mrs. Pierson had thought about this since Zoren mentioned it, but now she found herself at a dead end. She simply had no explanation for it whatsoever.
