Chapter 28 - Grandpas crush

"You guys are moving to Stanton? Congrats. Give my congratulations to your dad."

"Yeah, I know I haven't seen you guys since Halloween last year and the others since the basketball game."

"I'll visit you sometime in the future."

"Bye."

I hung up the call with Greg. I've interacted with them quite often since my vacation with them.

Suddenly, my phone rang again.

Another call. It seems I am popular today.

This time it was my grandpa.

"What's up, Grandpa?" I asked.

"I need your help, Gabe," he said.

"For what?"

"Just come take a taxi and head to my home," Grandpa said anxiously.

"The new one or the old one?" I asked for clarification.

"The new one," he said, hanging up shortly after.

I took a taxi and headed to Grandpa's new home. He bought it about a month ago. He still hadn't sold the old house and went there about once a week.

The new home was in a rich part of the city. It looked very modern and was huge. The best part was the swimming pool.

While in the taxi, I worked on coding the taxi app I decided to create.

I soon arrived at the house.

It looked great. Every time I looked at it, I found a new detail I hadn't noticed before.

I truly need to praise my grandpa's taste and the architect.

Arriving at the gate, I typed in the security code.

Soon the gate automatically opened.

I walked up the driveway to the door and rang the doorbell.

"Hello, Gabe. Good to see you. Come in," Grandpa greeted me hastily and dragged me inside as soon as he opened the door.

"What's wrong, Grandpa?" I asked, curious about his behavior.

"I met a woman, Gabe. I don't know how your mother or uncle might react," he said anxiously.

It was only natural that he came to me. Even though I am one of the younger ones, I am the smartest in the family.

He couldn't go to Mom and Uncle Mitchell due to their involvement. He didn't trust my dad and Uncle Cameron enough, so the younger generation was his only option. I was the best pick he could take.

The woman he talked about should be Gloria. I knew her from the memories I received. That was one of the few things I remembered from the memories.

"Just tell me a few things about the woman," I told him.

"Well, she is very beautiful. She has a strong personality, which I love, and she is very passionate. Those are some of the things I like about her," he said, lost in his thoughts while talking about her.

"She seems pretty great. Why are you so anxious? Mom and Uncle Mitchell shouldn't overreact too much," I asked him. I didn't want him to know that I knew her age.

"There is a problem though," Grandpa said hesitantly.

"What's the problem?" I continued my questioning.

"She is young," he said.

"How young?" I asked.

"She's 35," he said, taking a deep breath before saying the final word.

"Well, I understand why you seem nervous about it. You are already 60. That is an age gap of 25 years. But honestly, I think you are overreacting," I said, sharing my opinion.

"Why overreact? Your mom and your uncle already have a little mother complex due to DeDe. I am afraid that when they get a stepmother of the same age, that trauma will get even bigger," Grandpa explained.

"Because they have a small trauma due to Nana, it isn't that problematic. Having lived with her for so long, no stepmother will cause them to have a bigger trauma. They would probably be relieved that it isn't a second Nana. The woman you have chosen probably has a beautiful personality. I trust you in that. If that is truly the case, Mom and Uncle Mitchell won't mind her once they get to know her better," I told him my side of the whole thing.

"Thank you, Gabe. I knew I was right to ask you for help. I'm making the famous Jay Pritchett Sandwich. Want one?" Grandpa thanked me and offered his reward at the same time.

"When will you tell them?" I asked curiously.

"I don't know yet," he said helplessly.

"Don't waste too much time thinking about it. If you do, you'll never tell them. That would be problematic," I advised him while eating the sandwich.

I may be young, but I have watched enough TV shows to know how that would end.

"I know," Grandpa said.

After that, Grandpa drove me back home. This time I didn't need to take a taxi.

Arriving at home, Mom wasn't there, and Dad was probably reviewing an estate.

"Hi? Haley? Alex? Luke?" I shouted upstairs, wanting to know if any of them were at home.

"What's wrong? Why are you shouting like that?" Haley asked while coming downstairs.

"Where are Mom and Dad?" I asked her.

"Mom is at the supermarket, and Dad is looking at an estate," she said while writing something on her phone.

"OMG! Do you remember Sabrina, who had a crush on you when we were kids?" Haley asked excitedly.

I just nodded.

"She has four boyfriends at once. They somehow found out and confronted her in front of the whole school yesterday," Haley said excitedly.

"She deserves it. How does that even work? Four boyfriends at once?" I asked, a little curiously.

"You could have also had four girlfriends at once. Sabrina, Elisabeth, and Natasha all had a crush on you at the same time. And don't forget the greatest one. ME! I still don't know how I had a crush on you," she said, rolling her eyes.

"Well, maybe because I am so handsome," I replied with absolute confidence.

"That is true, but you spend way too much time studying. Just like Alex," she said with a hint of teasing in her voice.

That didn't bother me. I loved learning and would never hesitate to mention it. It wasn't embarrassing for me.

As for the fact that Haley had a crush on me, I knew about it. I also had a crush on her. That was when I just got into the family though. After we got to know each other, we only built a pure friendship.
