Chapter 19 - Transformation

The next day, I woke up feeling refreshed. I had slept really well last night.

I glanced at the clock—it was only 8 a.m.

Heading downstairs for breakfast, I found only vegan options.

I loved meat and couldn't imagine going without it. So, I looked for another option. It didn't take long before I spotted Lenny, Lamonsoff, and McKenzie cooking bacon on the bug zapper.

Being weak-willed, I couldn't resist and snatched a piece of bacon from them. It turned out surprisingly delicious.

After that, nothing much happened. Lenny and the others headed to an island on the lake to scatter their coach's ashes. The rest of us kids played in the water while the others who stayed behind, mostly women, watched us.

This continued until afternoon when the others returned.

I was trying to dry off while reading another book I had brought with me.

Lying on the chair, Lenny, Lamonsoff, McKenzie, Higgins, and Rob approached the pier.

Suddenly, I heard the sound of an old car engine.

Looking up, I saw an old car arriving.

The car parked, and a beautiful blonde woman stepped out of it.

"Damn car," she muttered, slamming the door.

"Hey, Dad," she said next.

I turned back, curious about who her dad was.

When I looked back, I was greeted by a humorous sight.

Everyone was pointing their fingers. Meanwhile, Rob stepped forward and hugged the woman. It was quite comical considering she was taller than Rob. Rob was just a little over 5'2" (1.60m), while she was about 5'7" (1.75m). At least, that's what my brain told me, and I trust it.

The woman seemed to be complaining to Rob while opening the hood of the car.

Suddenly, a gust of wind blew her hair.

Something clicked inside me at that moment. Something awakened.

I knew through my intellect that it was probably puberty.

After that, I simply watched the woman with Lenny, Lamonsoff, McKenzie, and Higgins, who had all sat down beside me moments ago.

"Like what you see, boy?" Higgins asked, laughing.

I didn't know what to say, but fortunately, Lenny soon intervened and punched Higgins.

We watched as Gloria came up and began fixing the car. All of us turned to watch. I was a little curious about how it was done, but seeing Gloria struggling wasn't very appealing. I preferred reading about it in a book.

After that, Lenny and the others soon went fishing. I continued reading my books.

Everything was peaceful until I heard a scream from the forest. Curious, I looked towards it but saw nothing.

I didn't think much about it until about two minutes later when Lenny, Lamonsoff, McKenzie, and Higgins came carrying Rob.

The problem was Rob had an arrow stuck in his foot. I immediately rushed over to try and help.

All I could do was offer some advice on what they should do. Luckily, almost immediately, everyone else arrived and helped us.

As we were doing that, I heard another motor sound.

I heard footsteps and saw a beautiful Asian woman approaching.

She greeted Rob as her dad.

"Another one?" everyone thought.

Immediately after, another woman arrived. This time, a woman who looked almost exactly like Rob. No paternity test was needed.

Together, we all helped Rob and called an ambulance. Fortunately, it arrived soon after, and Rob only needed some treatment here; he didn't have to go to the hospital.

After that, everything calmed down again.

Time passed quickly, and soon it was almost bedtime.

Feeling a bit bored, I wanted to inject some fun into the group. All of us kids were in our room.

"Do you guys want to make cup phones?" I suggested, hoping to suggest a fun activity. Researching was always enjoyable.

"You mean building cup phones?" Charlotte said excitedly. Her eyes suddenly lit up.

"That's a great idea," she said.

"That's not what I meant," I muttered quietly. How did she misunderstand that? I was silently crying in my mind.

I couldn't voice my opinion as the others were already cheering at the prospect of using cup phones.

I didn't have much of a choice and started helping them set up their network. It was much easier than building a digital network.

It didn't take long, and soon our small network was set up. Everyone had a cup phone in their hands, and we all talked together.

"How do these things even work?" Keithie asked, curious.

"It's quite simple actually. There's air inside the cups and string. The vibrations from the bottom of Cup A cause the string to vibrate. The vibrations from the string then cause the bottom of Cup B to vibrate in the same way as Cup A did. The vibrating bottom of Cup B then pushes and pulls on the air inside Cup B, which generates sound waves corresponding to the original sound waves produced by the speaker at Cup A," I explained, trying to simplify it for them.

We had already discussed sound transmission at the beginning of college. Cup phones were even used as an example.

"Sounds complicated," Keithie said, trying to wrap his head around it.

Meanwhile, some of the smarter ones understood it.

"Through the string," I simplified it further, omitting any technical details.

"Ahhh," Keithie suddenly realized. Well, not really.

Soon after, Lenny burst into our room, thinking we were talking on real phones.

Seeing our cup phones, he asked us to install them in all the adult rooms as well. It was actually quite fun to do that.

I was pretty tired after that. We all were.
