Archie's eyes narrowed, "Is this what I think it is?"
"Depends on what you're thinking," Avery deadpanned. "What? I didn't run away. You want to go back on your words now?"
"Of course not. Just wondering why the hell you didn't stop me from getting into the pool when you knew you would be agreeing in the end."
"What difference would it make?" Avery asked, her voice reflecting genuine confusion. "I agree, we swim together. I don't agree, you swim alone. You are still swimming either way so why disturb you?"
Archie raked a hand through his wet hair, shaking his head in slight exasperation.
"Dumb," he murmured. "You think I would get into the water if I knew you would accept me? Swimming would be the last fucking thing on my mind then."
"Really?" Avery's tone was innocent but she had a mischievous twinkle in her eyes, as she bit down on her lip. "What would have been on your mind if not swimming then?"
