Lin Xiao sighed, knowing he couldn't change what had already happened. He finished with the man, who collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
Lin Xiao gently floated down and walked over to his sister.
He wrapped his arms around her, trying to comfort her, but instead, he noticed her recoiling as her eyes widened at the sight of the blood on his hands.
He glanced down, shocked by the stark reminder of the violence he'd been involved in.
The realization hit him hard—had he become so violent in just one day? Or had this side of him always been there, merely brought to the surface by the system?
Shaking off the troubling thoughts, Lin Xiao knew he had to focus on the immediate situation. "I can explain," he began, his voice calm but urgent.
He hugged Meiying tighter, hoping to offer her some comfort, but instead, he made her even more anxious. Lin Xiao took a deep breath, releasing her and stepping back slightly.
"This world... it has superpowers," he explained, choosing his words carefully. "I have one too, and I'm now part of the Supernatural Association. It's a government organization."
Hearing the word "government," Meiying's frantic breathing began to slow, and she seemed to calm down slightly. "Superpowers?" she echoed, still looking at him with wide eyes. "What's your superpower?"
Lin Xiao hesitated for a moment before deciding to tell her part of the truth. "I have memory manipulation and space powers, which let me fly and teleport."
Meiying's eyes widened even more at this revelation, but she nodded slowly, absorbing the information. Lin Xiao then instructed her, "When the officers arrive, I need you to pretend like I erased your memories of this. Can you do that?"
Meiying looked uncertain. "I don't think I can act that well..."
Realizing the urgency and the necessity for secrecy, Lin Xiao sighed. "I'm sorry, Meiying. This is for your safety." Before she could react, Lin Xiao swiftly knocked her out, catching her gently as she collapsed.
He carried her outside, where Xiaoyu was waiting, looking anxious. "Is she okay?" Xiaoyu asked, glancing at Meiying.
"She'll be fine," Lin Xiao assured her. "I had to knock her out for her safety,"
As they waited for Li Jing and her team to arrive, Lin Xiao couldn't help but feel the weight of the day's events pressing down on him.
When Li Jing arrived with backup, Lin Xiao explained the situation succinctly, omitting the more sensitive details. "She's unconscious, but she's safe,"
As the officers secured the scene and took the children to safety, Lin Xiao couldn't shake the feeling that this was just the beginning of something much larger and more dangerous.
He glanced back at the warehouse, a sense of foreboding settling over him. While fighting, Lin Xiao had scanned the memories of the three men, discovering they were all part of the Dream Desire Palace.
However, when he tried to uncover who ordered them to kidnap the kids, he hit a mental block, as if something was intentionally obscuring that information.
Lin Xiao approached Li Jing, who was coordinating the scene. "I scanned their memories," he said quietly. "They're all from the Dream Desire Palace, but I couldn't see who ordered them to kidnap the kids. It's like something was blocking that memory."
Li Jing looked thoughtful, her brow furrowed. "That's concerning," she said, her voice low. "It means there's someone, or something, very powerful behind this. Go back home with your sister. Xiaoyu will drop you off."
Lin Xiao nodded, understanding the unspoken command. "Alright. Thank you, Li Jing."
Xiaoyu led him to the car where Meiying was already resting in the back seat. Lin Xiao gently settled her, ensuring she was comfortable, before climbing in beside her.
As Xiaoyu started the car, Lin Xiao glanced back at the warehouse one last time. Lin Xiao wondered, did he make the right choice?
The drive home was quiet, giving Lin Xiao time to reflect. The Dream Desire Palace was more insidious than he had imagined, How dare they kidnap his sister. Lin Xiao was angry and was feeling a bit inflated cause of his system.
When they reached home, Xiaoyu helped Lin Xiao carry Meiying inside. He thanked her, and she gave him a reassuring smile. "Take care of your sister. If you need any help again, just call me."
Lin Xiao nodded. "Thank you, Xiaoyu."
He then turned to his mother, who looked concerned but relieved when he explained, "Meiying just accidentally fell asleep. She's fine."
Mother Lin looked a bit worried but, seeing that Meiying seemed okay, she put her concerns aside.
Lin Xiao carried his sister upstairs and gently placed her on the bed. She was sleeping soundly, her breathing steady.
Returning to his room, Lin Xiao lay down on his bed, his cats jumping onto his chest as usual. They seemed to sense his tension. Xiao Bai looked at him curiously. "What's wrong? What happened to Mei Mei?"
Lin Xiao explained everything that had happened, from the kidnapping to the fight in the warehouse. Xiao Bai's eyes narrowed with anger. "I will kill them!" he declared.
Lil' Blackie, though silent, also looked furious.
Lin Xiao chuckled at their protectiveness, their small forms belying their fierce spirits. He gently petted both of them. "It's okay. We'll handle it together. For now, let's just get some rest."
Xiao Bai and Lil' Blackie eventually curled up in their own beds, still looking a bit ruffled. Lin Xiao lay back, staring at the ceiling, his mind racing.
The events of the day weighed heavily on him: the red crystal, the kidnappings, and the Dream Desire Palace.
Everything seemed connected, and he felt an urgent need to uncover the truth.
He wondered if he had made the right choice in telling Meiying about his powers and the Supernatural Association.
At first, he had considered erasing her memories to protect her, but ultimately decided against it.
He needed someone close to him to know the truth, to be aware of what he was going through, just in case something happened to him.
It was a risky decision, but for his peace of mind, it felt like the right one.
As he drifted into an uneasy sleep, Lin Xiao thought to himself, "At least I didn't kill someone,"
