~~~Qarth Military Base, Xandar~~~
~~~Oscar Tumbler~~~
~~~June 1942~~~
"The plane was refueled, Lieutenant, we can leave for the fleet as soon as possible, and hopefully get back to Washington to report this to the White House as soon as possible," Felipe reported, as we both checked the plane for departure.
Felipe looked to a certain part, where a total of twenty Xandarian soldiers were training, which were using swords, others were using spears or in the case of the women, were using whips, which seemed to be lethal, judging by the sound of it and the marks left on the ground or the practice dummies. "What did you think of all this?"
"They are very aggressive, at first I thought their name when we met with their king was to impress, but not so, look even the civilians living in the city on the terraces behave specially, they scan their space as if they are in danger, they walk roughly, besides. I managed to talk to some soldiers, they told me that they start their martial training at the tender age of seven."
"Seven years old?!" Philip exclaimed in surprise, delighted at the young age at which children were subjected to training to be soldiers, "I at that age still thought the moon was following me."
"From what I learned, it was due to the cultivation of two ethnic groups in the Empire: the Dothraki and the Unsullied, the history of the former dates back to a group of nomadic savages much like the Mongols, and the Unsullied I was told were slave soldiers, apparently they were thousands of years ago, and even now, the most powerful infantry force in the Empire, due to their inhumane training from an early age", from what he knew, almost the entire population of Xandar was composed of several ethnic groups.
From the so-called Jhogos Nhai with Asian look-alikes, the Dothraki, the Unsullied, the ancient Ghiscaris, the Stive, the Westerosi, and the Naathi, it was amazing the level of groups that made up this Empire, and especially the fact that all of their cultures and traditions blended to compose one.
"That's wrong, children should be allowed to grow up, live their childhood, not sent to camps where they are taught to fight," Philip was outraged, for a progressive like him, and someone who had two sons, there was no place to accept something like that. "Well, you must know that this is a new place, brought to the planet by unknown means, we cannot judge them based on our beliefs and customs as a people, you know that if so, we would be weak men to them," I stressed to him, remembering how many made fun of the fact that I had no braid or bells.
"WAAA!"
Suddenly, multiple alarms started going off, at the same time I could see everyone on the base running, as if something serious was going on, "could you tell us what's going on?" I asked a woman walking past us, who got a little angry at being stopped. "There is a possible risk of attack in Tharlan, the king has given orders to leave for the city as soon as possible."
Attack? What other nation would have established contact with Xandar? "The Japanese soldiers may have asked for support from the Japanese Empire before they were captured." Philip said, thinking of the only possible route, "Hey, you guys!" Suddenly a loud shout was heard, seeing it belonged to one of the so-called Blood Riders, approaching us, "The king has ordered you to enter his transport and follow him to Tharlan, he wants you to see the power of Xandar."
Philip and I didn't have to think twice, and nodding, we quickly made our way to our plane, fortunately, it was ready and with a full tank, so it wouldn't take long to board and take off.
"What's going on?" On the plane, we met our companions, who looked confused, "they made us board the plane, according to go to a city to see the combat between Xandarian forces and what I think is the Japanese".
"And how will we go? I don't even know which direction that city is?" Felipe, as the pilot of the plane, asked anxiously, and as if it was a signal, multiple roars began to be heard.
Immediately, the group of three photographers, four diplomats, and Felipe and I, managed to watch as multiple wyverns took flight, numbering perhaps over forty. "I think there's your answer," I said to Felipe, ordering everyone to board the plane.
Once we all took corresponding seats, Philip started the engines and had the plane take off, taking to the skies once again, managing to see the surroundings of the base again, "holy shit!" Hannibal, one of the photographers on board, shouted in surprise, almost frightened, "Those are the real dragons!"
With the screams of Hannibal and the others, I was forced to look in that direction, and what I saw was the most terrifying and beautiful thing I had ever seen, a total of three wyverns, dragons or whatever those things were called, were together in a huge field, two of them were not so big, but at first glance they seemed bigger than a destroyer. On the other hand... The third and largest, was a massive beast, completely made to dominate the skies, it was like looking at a flying aircraft carrier.
"I think those are the dragons of the monarchs of Xandar," I thought out loud, not taking my eyes off the giants.
~~~Pacific Ocean~~~
~~~Two hours of Tharlan~~~
"Their ships are impossible to sink with cannons and bombs, they use sorcery, some kind of magic that makes their ships impenetrable," the voice of the soldier in charge of the telegraph could be heard in the room, while several other intelligence members were writing reports. "Presence of winged beasts, people with inhuman powers, medieval armor, destructive weapons capable of destroying ships with no problem."
As the soldier spoke, the frowns of the admirals, the second-in-command, and the general inside the Hōshō carrier's command room became more pronounced, with some showing obvious anger in their expressions.
Soon, the soldier deciphering the messages addressed the general; "General Izawa, that was the last report sent before the report termination." General Izawa looked from the cockpit at the fleet he commanded, the 3rd carrier fleet, the Zuihō was advancing just to the right, with the destroyers and battleships protecting the two carriers.
"How far are we from the last location of the 8th Brigade destroyers?" Izawa asked, his tired eyes moving erratically as if he was thinking many things at once.
"Seventy miles away general."
"Good, have the twenty Mitsubishi G4M bombers stand by, load them with 250-pound No.25 bombs, and have the twenty-six Nakajima load them with 250-pound No.6 bombs, we have to sink their ships, reports say there was no air force, so if their ships are destroyed, the takeover of the city and future allied landing is possible," Izawa informed his vice admirals, who saluted and left.
Half an hour later, when the mountains of the Tharlan coasts could be seen from the ships with the aid of binoculars, the aircraft of the carriers Hōshō and Zuihō took off one after another, while all the soldiers moved to their established war posts.
The fleet, composed of the two aircraft carriers, the two Kawachi-class battleships, and the six Akizuki-class destroyers, which, together with the four first-class submarines, made the fleet a very dangerous and feared one throughout the Pacific, would face enemy forces after they 'sank' the destroyer fleet.
When all the planes took off, the two battleships gave maximum speed towards where the Xandarian ships were, to engage in battle. Two destroyers followed them.
"Set attack course, attention, concentrate your attacks on only one enemy ship at a time, wait for my signal," General Izawa, aboard the carrier Hōshō and with the aid of binoculars, watched as the four ships moved closer and closer to the Xandarian ships.
"Fire at will," General Izawa ordered, giving the green light for the bombardment of part of all the ships.
"BOOOM!"
Torpedoes, cannons, and turrets opened fire, focusing on the first eight ships of the enemy line, which were the closest, all eight boats were submerged in a massive attack force, causing the unsullied on deck to take cover due to the shockwaves created when the shells hit the vessel.
At first, the ships presented no problem resisting the crossfire of the shells, as their hulls were holding up strongly. Still, the aerial bombers entered, unleashing their bombs without contemplation, dropping them on the ships under attack, aiming to join the joint attack.
"KAABOOOM!" This time, the 250-pound bombs took effect, managing to wound the ship enough to damage it severely.
Bombs from the air took care of killing the soldiers on deck, while together with the shells from the Japanese destroyers and battleships, the first four Xandarian ships were managed to be seen destroyed.
