Max was already waiting in the park and as soon as he saw Valerie, he raised his hand, signaling her to come over.
She breathed out, calming her nerves, and approached.
Seeing Max standing tall in front of her with no expression on his face reminded her of his pained expression. She bit her lip and stretched out the bag.
"This is yours." She said.
Max looked at the bag and slowly accepted it. He looked inside and saw it was his jacket as well as the scarf he gave her.
His gaze fell and his eyebrows furrowed.
"So, that's your answer." He said and raised his head to look at her with his disappointed expression. "Valerie, do you really detest me?"
"No." She said. "The word detest isn't it at all."
Max flinched. What did that mean? Was there anything worse than detest? He clenched his teeth. What did he do wrong?
"Will you at least explain it to me?" He asked. "Tell me, why did you say those things to those people?"
