Chapter 5 - Taming A Sheep?

Seeing that the lights were approaching quickly, I sidestepped to the right and stood behind a tree. With my back pressed against the tree, the wind and earth passed through where I was standing.

[So brown lights can control the earth. And the blue lights, obviously, the wind. The green one is.... nature I guess. The earth magic would've made me lose my footing, making it so that the wind would be able to push me away further. It wasn't deadly. At most, I would've gotten pushed back a dozen meters. And with how concentrated the lights were, they probably combined their magic. As the boar's magic wasn't that strong. But now that they're wary, how can I approach them? I need to show that I'm harmless since I totally am not going to kill them. It's not like I'm going to butcher them for their delicious tender meat and soft fluffy wools...]

Thinking of how comfortable I would be able to sleep if I can get their wool, I peeked at them from behind the tree and saw that they were huddled together while looking warily towards me, with lights still abundantly floating around them.

Moving slowly, I walked out carefully from behind the tree while holding my hands up, just enough to reveal myself while trying not to startle them, while I saw that the lights were getting concentrated together when I revealed myself, they were not shot towards me yet.

"I am not dangerous." I spoke as softly as I could, trying to convince them that I was not a threat even though they wouldn't understand me.

After taking a good look at me and seeing that my hands were empty, a few sheep at the forefront of the circle with horns that were curved inward, making the horns almost harmless, started slowly approaching me. As most of the lights were following their movements, I would assume that they were the strongest in the herd.

Stopping about three meters away from me, one of the horned sheep with blue lights around it came closer to me while I was still holding up my hands and started sniffing me.

[Oh shit. What is it me smelling for? I hope he doesn't smell the cooked meat I ate. It's getting a little too close for my liking.]

Preparing myself for possible altercations, I readied my hands to grab a firm hold onto its horns if it were to try and tackle me. After sniffing me for a few seconds, the sheep started going around me while starting to sniff stronger.

When its nose was right at my bag, it started poking its nose at my bag while bleating, looking excited. Making some of the horned sheep that were keeping their eyes on us meters away come a little closer.

[What's it looking excited for? Is there something in my bag?... Food?... Oh, the apples I found.]

"Okay, okay. Calm down. I'll give you some." Speaking softly, I slowly took off the bag slung on my shoulder and gave the excited-looking sheep an apple.

Looking at the sheep chewing excitedly, a few of the horned sheep came closer and started bleating at me.

Looking at these excited sheep, I gave them all my apples, which were just enough for the amount of horned sheep that came close to me.

After all the horned sheep were chewing apples, the first sheep finished eating and loudly bleated at me, then started walking back.

Not understanding what it meant, I debated whether to follow it or to just stay put. Looking back and seeing me standing at the same spot, it bleated again. I also saw a small amount of wind magic moving behind me and weakly tried to push me forward.

Now understanding what it meant, I started following behind it. Seeing the direction it was leading me to, it looks like it thought I wanted to use the river, which wasn't wrong.

[These sheep seem a little intelligent. And it seems like a lot of animals come here to use the river, maybe because this is the sheep's territory, and so it's safe from predators. Then why were they wary of me? Have they never seen humans before?]

After reaching an isolated side of the river, the sheep bleated and walked away. Leaving me here.

Now beside the river, I took off my top and started splashing some water on myself. After rehydrating myself and cleaning up a little in a few minutes, I started thinking of how I could get in contact with a sheep to maybe try my theory of using soul magic.

But thankfully, while I was finishing up, a sheep that looked a little young walked up towards me, looking curious like it was investigating me. Trying my luck, I slowly held out my hand, letting it sniff my hand.

After letting it sniff my hand, I slowly moved my hand towards its body. And as soon as my hand touched its body, information entered my brain like nothing I've ever felt before.

[What the... what language is this? No, this isn't a language, it's just pure information, is it my soul interpreting this?.... So this sheep is a male, with a soul maturity similar to maybe of a fifteen year old, a virgin, and some information that I kind of understand but not really. So, is this soul magic? Wow, this is amazing, I guess being able to read souls should be the basics of soul magic. Since not knowing what you're manipulating would be bad. Now I'm sure this is somehow related to soul magic, I should try my theory. But since this is a male sheep, I'm not gonna try taming it.]

Surprisingly, or perhaps unsurprisingly, more and more sheep came to investigate me after seeing that the other sheep was peacefully interacting with me.

[I should be able to find a suitable sheep with how many sheep are around me. Let's see, male-virgin, male-father, female-soul maturity of a 12 year old, female-mother.... Hah! Here, female-maiden-soul maturity of around a year older than me.]

Going around and touching a bunch of sheep, I finally found the perfect sheep. Looking at a sheep with horns that are pretty large with blue light floating around it, I put my right palm on it and got ready to test my theory.

[I hope this doesn't hurt, and the sheep doesn't suddenly cry out in pain. I'd be in danger if that happens.]

Closing my eyes, I slowly moved the energy from the core and felt pain as usual as I moved it towards my right palm. As soon as the energy arrives at the place where the barrier would've been, the feeling of pain stopped, and was replaced by a pleasant feeling, the energy at my core started flowing and moving into the sheep, while I can also feel that something was also entering me from the sheep.

Feeling that the thing entering me from the sheep was different from the energy I'm ejecting, it continued flowing into me and was gathering into a new core beside the core at my heart.

As the soul energy inside me continued decreasing, the new core was getting condensed and started orbiting the core at my heart.

Even though I was feeling pleasant, I started feeling dizzy as the energy inside the core at my heart was getting emptied out. Feeling dizzy, I opened my eyes and saw that the sheep was also looking a little dazed, and thankfully, it looked like it was not in any pain.

Seeing the last drop of energy from my original core moving towards my palm, my view started getting darker and darker as my consciousness went to sleep. The last thing I saw was the sheep also falling down onto the ground together with me.
