Suppressing a scream, Ning Xiaofei drew back and gently grabbed her bag, then tiptoed over to the shoe rack to pick up her shoes.
Dragging her slippers across the floor, she didn't bother to put on her shoes as she quietly slipped toward the door.
Her hand on the doorknob, she remembered she hadn't taken her keys. Bending down, she tiptoed back, and peered through the ornately carved wooden decoration in the hall to see Mu Tianye standing in the living room.
Mu Tianye was sideways to her, clutching his phone and apparently making a call to someone. Just by looking at his expression, she could tell he was very unhappy.
Fortunately, she had noticed just in time. Otherwise, it would have been a disaster.
Ning Xiaofei silently congratulated herself, clutching the keys in her hand, bag in one hand and shoes in the other, she tiptoed across the hall like a thief. She carefully gripped the doorknob and gently pulled the door open a crack.
