Another three days had passed.
On the parade ground, the flag of Yun Country fluttered in the wind. Ling Xi, along with a group of soldiers, stood tall and straight, their gazes solemn and their bearing valiant; they could never have imagined that they would be standing here in this manner so soon.
The captain personally attended the event for two reasons. First, to console these soldiers who had been deceived for many years, bearing with him an apology; and second, for Ling Xi—to bestow upon her the epaulettes himself.
"Ling Xi…" As he placed the epaulettes on her shoulders, the captain watched her calm and indifferent eyes, his own gaze filled with complexity. For some reason, the words of encouragement he intended to say suddenly became stuck in his throat, leaving only a sigh.
"Thank you, captain!" Ling Xi nodded slowly to the captain, her eyes filled with utter solemnness and resolve.
