Chapter 2 - Where am I

It's been a couple of weeks since I woke up from what I thought was the end. I was currently at the edge of a forest searching for a tree to chop down to bring back to the orphanage.

Ya that's right, I'm currently staying at some run down orphanage in a small town a little ways away from the city of Asakusa in Japan. That's kind of weird considering I've never set foot in Japan, but that's not even the scary part. It's the fact that I'm in the meji period specifically in the year 1904, or that's at least what the matron told me.

Now, that either means I have been transmigrated back in time to the meji era or I have somehow reincarnated into another world. I'm leaning more towards the reincarnation bit because of the amount of unnaturally colored hair I've seen in the past few weeks. I thought as I swung my axe down on the nearest tree.

There are also a couple of other odd occurrences, but ill get to those later because I've got bigger issues to deal with. For instance, I'm struggling to adapt to my new life. I've been trying to communicate with the other kids, but I can't even speak without my face cringing in pain. It hurts to move my mouth so much even just to eat; I'm affectively mute at the moment.

I just make slight grunts now and then to convey my needs to the matron. She is a pretty nice lady. She has been re-wrapping my bandages every other day since I've been here and also applies ointment to my cheek all without even asking for anything in return.

I'm still holding on to hope that my face will hold even a fraction of the handsomeness I once had.

From what I've heard from the other children in the orphanage, I was found on the doorstep wrapped up in bloody bandages from head to toe, but there were clear signs of damage to my face and body that could be easily noticed. Apparently, I was so injured that they didn't expect me to wake up for a couple of months, but this body I have reincarnated into is really weird now that I think about it. I have a surprising amount of strength for a child. I mean, I've basically cut down this large tree in under five swings and I don't even feal that tired.

I easily dragged the tree back to the orphanage with little difficulty. When I made it back, I cut the tree into chunks to be used as firewood, seeing as winter was coming soon by the faint snow fall coming from the horizon. When I was almost finished, I saw out of the corner of my eye a small girl looking at me from the top window of the orphanage. The same girl that ran from me on my first day apparently she is pretty shy and has a hard time conversing with new people at least that's what I could gather from her constant staring.

Ive tried to corner her but every time I do she runs away she's pretty agile for how young she is but that's besides the point because im positive I have seen her before but I can't quite put my finger on it hopefully I find out who she is because currently she the only clue I have to my past life, the only clue I have to figure out who or where I am.

..................

A couple of days have passed since I finished cutting the remaining firewood for the rest of the season. The matron seems pretty thankful for my help but keeps saying it's important for me to get rest so I can recover from my injuries but I feel relatively fine besides the pain the sometimes radiates from my face.

Whatever attacked me was definitely going for the kill me and the pain was a constant reminder of that fact. I would often wake up in the middle of the night thinking back to that memory, or at least this body's memory of that moment.

"Huhhhhh,"

I sighed. I missed my old life, my family and friends, yet I don't think I'll ever have the chance to see them again. I wished I didn't take everything for granted. If I knew this was going to happen, I would have spent less time waving that stupid fucking sword around like an idiot man. What was I thinking? Maybe my dad was right and there is no use for swordsmen when there is nothing worth protecting.

"ughhh" I grunted out in boredom. What does a guy got to do around here for some entertainment seriously they don't tell you when u reincarnate into the past or another world how boring and tedious life is without the internet or basic modern day appliances I literally have to wash my clothes by hand. Why god why have u cursed me? I screamed out in my head, hoping for an answer, wishing it was all a dream. As I was lost in thought, I was unable to notice a little someone creeping up to the side of my bed until I heard.

" Hi my names makomo whats yours,"
