'I'm walking now, this is ridiculous,' Jesse insisted.
'No, you should rest- '
'Cazz, if they're here and we're about to fight, these males need to be free- not carrying me. And besides, we're moving so slowly now, I can keep up, no trouble.'
I shot her a look over my shoulder. 'No trouble? No trouble at all? Really, mate?'
'Fine, it will be hard, but I can do it. And besides, I need to be free of that sling. If something does happen, I need to run.'
I was about to shoot down that idea- until she sent me an image of herself twisted up in those sheets, her belly uncradled, as the wolves around her fell to bullets.
My entire body tensed. 'Fine. But if you grow too weary, tell me.'
'I will. Cazz, this is life and death. I'm not going to do anything dumb.'
I remembered the calm she'd kept back in the hotel when I'd rushed to combat without thinking and nodded.
