Chapter 3 - “Let’s play for it!”

The sun began to rise over the sprawling training complex, casting a warm glow on the pristine fields as Theo and his teammates lined up at the starting line, preparing for their first challenge of the day: running laps around the expansive training ground. The crisp morning air filled their lungs as they took off, feet pounding against the well-manicured grass. The sound of their breathing mingled with the soft rustle of leaves, creating a rhythm that echoed the intensity of the moment.

As they circled the field, Theo found himself lost in thought, but he was soon pulled back to reality when a voice called out beside him. It was the same guy who had approached him earlier, keeping pace effortlessly. "Hey! Do you remember me?" he asked, a playful grin on his face.

Theo glanced over, recognizing him. "Yeah, I remember you, but I didn't catch your name."

With a nod of enthusiasm, the guy replied, "Minji Nakamura. I'm half Korean, half Japanese. Nice to meet you!" There was a friendly spark in Minji's eyes that made Theo feel at ease amidst the competitive atmosphere.

Before Theo could respond, a voice cut through their conversation like a sharp whistle. "Hey, do you speak French?" It was a tall guy with an athletic build, his eyes sharp and confident.

Surprised, Theo turned to him. "Yeah, I do," he replied, his French accent flowing effortlessly from his lips. "My dad is from France."

The guy's face lit up. "Great! I'm Antoine Dupont!" he declared, his French accent thick yet approachable. Theo felt a rush of camaraderie; it was always refreshing to connect with someone who shared his multicultural background.

After their brief exchanges, the group pushed through the final lap, the effort intensifying with each stride. Sweat dripped down their brows as they crossed the finish line, the sounds of panting filling the air. Coach Kobayashi stood waiting, a satisfied smile on his face. "Good job, everyone! But this is just the beginning. We have hours of intense training ahead!"

The next few hours were a blur of drills, skill exercises, and tactical training. Theo could feel the adrenaline pumping through his veins as they engaged in various exercises designed to push them to their limits. Coach Kobayashi was relentless, encouraging them to dig deeper and challenge themselves. The sun rose higher in the sky, casting long shadows on the ground as they executed drills, weaving through cones, practicing shots, and mastering defensive maneuvers.

Eventually, the training session came to an end, and the players were sent back to the main building to refuel. As they filed in, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement and exhaustion. Just as Theo was about to step through the entrance, Coach Kobayashi called out to him. He turned around, curiosity piqued.

"Kobayashi-sensei?" Theo approached, heart racing slightly.

"Are you Marcus Lappnant's brother?" Kobayashi asked, his eyes narrowing in assessment.

"Yeah, that's me," Theo replied, pride swelling within him.

Kobayashi nodded approvingly. "I was impressed with your work rate today. Keep it up. Your brother is a talented player. I expect great things from you as well."

Theo felt a rush of motivation surge through him. With that conversation lingering in his mind, he headed to the cafeteria, where players from different teams were mingling and sharing their experiences over dinner.

Finding a seat beside a group of players in their own team uniforms, Theo introduced himself. The table was lively, filled with energy as they shared stories and laughter. The players introduced themselves one by one. "I'm Renjiro Kurogane, a center-back," one said, his posture confident and assured. Another player chimed in, "Kazuki Tsukishiro, left back," while the third, with a friendly smile, added, "Sora Nishikawa, right back." A tall, athletic figure introduced himself as Tatsuro Inoue, the goalkeeper, followed by a confident midfielder, Haruka Nozomi. Finally, a dynamic presence, Shion Aoyagi, another midfielder, smiled as he nodded in greeting.

As the introductions continued, Minji eagerly chimed in. "I'm half Korean and Japanese, and I play left wing!" he said, enthusiasm radiating from him. The atmosphere felt more inviting now, and Theo felt a sense of belonging.

Antoine, looking a bit shy, gestured to Theo. "Could you help me introduce myself?" he asked, a hint of embarrassment coloring his cheeks.

"Of course!" Theo replied. "Go ahead."

With Theo translating, Antoine said, "I'm Antoine Dupont, a French player, and I play as a deep-lying forward."

Theo felt a surge of pride as he introduced himself next. "I'm Theo Kenpachi, half Japanese and French, and I'm a striker." The players nodded, respect flickering in their eyes as they took in his words.

Just then, the quiet player at the end of the table stood up, commanding attention with his presence. "Everyone, listen up!" he shouted, drawing the eyes of everyone in the cafeteria. "My name is João Gabriel Silva!" he announced with an infectious enthusiasm that turned heads. "I'm a Brazilian left winger, and I'm going to be the next Neymar Jr!" Laughter erupted from the table, and Theo couldn't help but grin at João's exuberance.

The energy was contagious, and as they settled into their meal, the conversation flowed freely. The bonds were forming, and Theo felt a sense of camaraderie growing among the players. They were all there for the same reason: to strive for greatness and support each other in their journey to become the best. With newfound friends by his side, the challenges ahead felt a little less daunting, and Theo couldn't wait to embrace everything the FIPA Training Program had to offer.

The following morning dawned bright and early, the air crisp with the promise of another intense training session. Theo and his teammates made their way back to the training ground, their spirits high from the camaraderie they had built the night before. As they approached the familiar pitch, however, they were met with an unexpected sight: another team was already there, warming up on their turf.

Tension crackled in the air as both teams locked eyes. Whispers of confusion quickly turned into raised voices, with each side claiming their right to the field. "We were here first!" shouted Renjiro, stepping forward to confront the other team.

"Doesn't matter; we booked this pitch!" a tall, muscular player from the opposing team retorted, crossing his arms defiantly. He had a chiseled jawline, dark hair slicked back, and an intimidating scowl that made it clear he wasn't backing down. His broad shoulders and powerful physique added to his presence, making him appear like a wall of muscle, ready for a fight. The mood grew increasingly hostile as both teams began to argue, the excitement of the morning overshadowed by a simmering dispute.

Just as it seemed that the situation might escalate further, a player from the other team suddenly hurled a soccer ball at Theo. It struck him squarely in the chest, and he stumbled slightly, surprised by the unexpected aggression. The player who had thrown the ball was lean yet muscular, with a sharp nose and piercing green eyes that glinted with mischief. He wore a confident grin, as if he relished the chaos he had just unleashed. "Let's play for it!" he challenged, his tone menacing, daring Theo to step up.

Theo caught the ball as it bounced off him, his mind racing. The atmosphere shifted, and he felt his teammates' eyes on him, waiting for his reaction. Fueled by adrenaline, he squared his shoulders and looked the player straight in the eye. "Fine, but if we win, you're out of here," he said, his voice steady, channeling the confidence he had built during the training program.

The tension escalated as the other team's players exchanged glances, some smirking, while others seemed to appreciate the challenge. The field was set for a showdown, and Theo could feel the energy crackling around him. It was time to put their skills to the test and prove themselves, not just to the other team, but to each other as well.
