Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Signing the Divorce Papers

As soon as he entered the hallway, Fu Hanjiang smelled food.

He immediately frowned. "What's that smell?"

The lights were on in the living room and the kitchen. Someone was home? How? Could it be a burglar?

Impossible. Even if a burglar had the guts to break in, they wouldn't be cooking a meal. The security at Yintan was top-notch; even a mouse from next door would think twice about coming in.

"Who's there?!"

Fu Hanjiang's handsome face darkened, and he shouted, "Get out here, now!"

"I'm coming!"

Hearing his voice, Sheng Xiangsi responded and ran out, standing in front of him with her hands clasped in front of her.

She spoke softly, "You're back."

For a moment, Fu Hanjiang was stunned.

The girl in front of him was tall and slender, though a bit too thin. She was quite beautiful, especially her large, expressive eyes that took up almost half her face.

He didn't recognize her.

Yet, there was a strong sense of familiarity.

Despite this, Fu Hanjiang's expression didn't improve. He disliked having his personal space invaded, regardless of the reason.

"Who are you? How did you get in here?"

Sheng Xiangsi was slightly startled and then chuckled—he really didn't recognize her…

She pressed her lips together and spoke softly, "I am Sheng Xiangsi."

"Hmm..."

Fu Hanjiang instinctively nodded but then suddenly realized what she had said. Sheng Xiangsi?

Oh, right.

He remembered now.

He knew about Grandma wanting to bring Sheng Xiangsi back.

His grandmother had even called him this morning. He had agreed at the time, but then got busy and forgot about it.

Fu Hanjiang narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing Sheng Xiangsi.

She was different from before, having shed the immature shell of a girl. On closer inspection, she still bore some resemblance to her younger self but now had a more womanly charm.

She was more beautiful than before.

Hmph.

He sneered lightly. So what?

No matter how striking her appearance was, it couldn't hide her corrupt nature!

Her return was timely; some matters that had been delayed for nearly three years needed to be resolved.

"Wait here for a moment. I'll be right back."

Fu Hanjiang shot her a cold glance before heading upstairs.

"Okay."

Sheng Xiangsi nodded, watching his figure recede. Because of his words, she didn't move, quietly standing there.

After a while, Fu Hanjiang returned.

He sat on the sofa, motioning to the opposite seat. "Sit."

"Alright."

As they sat facing each other, Fu Hanjiang opened a folder and placed it in front of Sheng Xiangsi. "Take a look. If there's no issue, sign it."

What was this?

Sheng Xiangsi looked up and saw the words—Divorce Agreement—in bold black letters.

"This should have been dealt with three years ago."

Fu Hanjiang said calmly, "But Grandma didn't agree, so I had to comply. Now..."

Sheng Xiangsi looked up at him. "Did Grandma agree?"

"..." Fu Hanjiang hesitated, his eyes narrowing before he truthfully said, "No."

Grandma was too stubborn, still unwilling to give up after all these years. She had brought Sheng Xiangsi back, hoping they could make it work.

Impossible.

He had already prepared for this.

"But I don't like you, as you know. This marriage was a mistake from the start. Nearly three years have passed, and it's time to end it."

Sheng Xiangsi listened quietly, not saying a word.

Assuming she disagreed, Fu Hanjiang frowned. "If you disagree, I'll have to file for divorce. We've been separated for over two years. If I file, it will definitely be granted..."

"No need for such trouble."

Before he could finish, Sheng Xiangsi interrupted him softly, "I agree to the divorce."

"You agree?" Fu Hanjiang was taken aback, a bit surprised.

"Yes." Sheng Xiangsi nodded again. "I agree."

Fu Hanjiang was genuinely surprised. He had thought Sheng Xiangsi's obsession with him would mean a lot of hassle...

He hadn't expected it to go so smoothly.

But it was a good thing for him.

After a brief shock, Fu Hanjiang raised his eyebrows. "In that case, just sign it."

"Alright."

He handed her the pen.

Sheng Xiangsi carefully read the agreement, then shook her head.

"I don't want the house or the money. I was raised by Grandma, so I owe the Fu family."

Nothing?

Fu Hanjiang found it amusing. "You've been living off the Fu family since you stepped through the door at fifteen."

Including all her expenses for studying abroad and living.

"You have no means to support yourself. How will you live?"

Hearing this, Sheng Xiangsi shivered, a chill running through her, silently clenching her hands without arguing.

"Could it be..."

Fu Hanjiang narrowed his eyes, speculating, "You don't want it now so you can come back and bother me if you can't make it on your own?"

"I won't." Sheng Xiangsi's eyes dimmed as she firmly denied it.

"In that case." Fu Hanjiang smiled indifferently, "Just sign it."

"Alright, I'll sign."

Sheng Xiangsi smiled lightly, gripping the pen and signing her name on both copies.

Finally, Fu Hanjiang was at ease.

"I'll notify you once I arrange a time at the civil affairs office."

"Okay." Sheng Xiangsi nodded, no objections.

He put away the agreement and, for the first time, looked Sheng Xiangsi in the eye.

"Grandma is about to have surgery. Until she recovers, we need to keep our divorce a secret. She raised you; can you cooperate?"

Sheng Xiangsi was astonished. He wanted to divorce her but still expected her to play along?

"Rest assured."

Fu Hanjiang smirked. "You won't be at a disadvantage. Once everything is settled, I'll give you a sum of money as compensation."

Hmph.

Sheng Xiangsi barely suppressed a cold laugh and nodded. "Alright, I understand."

"Good."

With the matter settled, Fu Hanjiang stood up. "We might still need to see each other during this time. I'll stay in the master bedroom. As for you..."

He paused before continuing, "Pick a room downstairs and get it ready."

With that, he turned and went upstairs.

Watching his retreating back, Sheng Xiangsi stood still, curling her lips.

He wanted her to pick a room downstairs?

It was well known that the rooms downstairs were all for servants. In his eyes, she was nothing more than a servant.

Sheng Xiangsi blinked, her eyes dry with not a single tear.

After taking a few deep breaths, she turned back to the dining room.

On the table, the noodles had been sitting too long and were now soggy and clumpy.

Sheng Xiangsi sat down, picked up her chopsticks, and stuffed a large mouthful of noodles into her mouth. They were cold and hard to swallow.

But she was really hungry, and there was nothing else to eat.

Just as she picked up her chopsticks, Fu Hanjiang suddenly stormed in again.

"Sheng Xiangsi!"

"Ugh, cough, cough!"

Caught off guard, Sheng Xiangsi choked and started coughing uncontrollably.

"Tsk."

Fu Hanjiang clicked his tongue, glancing at her bowl. "What did you cook? Is this even edible?"

"Noodles." Sheng Xiangsi replied, feeling better. "What do you want?"

"Noodles?"

This mush was noodles?

Fu Hanjiang sneered. "You can't even cook noodles? It seems the Fu family has indeed spoiled you too much."

Really? Sheng Xiangsi slightly opened her lips in a silent sneer.

"By the way."

Fu Hanjiang remembered his purpose for finding her and pointed at her bowl. "Don't cook here again. Go out to eat at restaurants. Don't turn this kitchen into a smoky mess!"

He raised an eyebrow, looking at her coolly. "Got it?"
