He dropped his phone with the doctor and hurriedly left the hospital back to the orphanage. He withdrew five million dollars and dropped it at the orphanage treasury without disclosing to Madam Sarah what he did.
He entered a cab and hurried down to the city mall. He needed a new phone and laptop. Even though he had been disgracefully rusticated from the school he would continue his research on cyber crime security. He would download materials and study hard. Perhaps enroll into another university and get a degree.
He entered the mall and began to check for the best make in phones and laptops. The HJ besktep products were the best and he opted for it. As he was about to pay the cashier, he saw two students from the university with their new phones too.
"Who do we have here, today?
Hahaha!"
Jake remarked sarcastically as he pointed at Roland. Jake was a part four student of mass communication in Stone University.
"Isn't he a joker coming to Mac shopping mall to get accessories?
You must be living in a fool's paradise.
A thief cannot afford a dime here.
You better back off, Roland the pauper and thief to crown it all," Richmond, another part four student in Stone University reiterated laughing heartily as if it was a huge joke.
"Don't you dare call me that. Haven't you all done enough damage? Don't you dare," Roland said as his brows furrowed in anger with clenched fists.
"Wow, the thief speaks," Jack remarked in a mocking gesture.
"Hahaha!"
They laughed as they walked towards the cashier.
"Can't you see how this one is dressed?"
Richmond said pointing to Roland arrogantly
"He can't pay for HJ besktep products. They are worth millions. He can't afford them. He is a pauper and penniless nobody."
"How can you even allow such people here?"
"This mall is meant for dignified persons. It is for high class individuals and not for low rangers whose aim is to steal."
"You better take away these products from him before he steals them."
The cashier looked at Roland carefully and observed his clothing. She saw reason with Richmond and Jake and decided to take away the products from Roland who struggled to keep the products with him.
"I am ready to pay for these items, please. This is my card. Slot it in and take your money," Roland Lee said confidently with his gaze fixed on Richmond and Jake.
Jake laughed mockingly as he pointed to the card.
"Don't threaten us with some obscure card. You can't pay for the phone and laptop as a thief that you are. You have nothing, no pedigree, no life and no cash."
"Yes, cash rules the world."
Richmond and Jake laughed so loudly that they created a scene in the mall. The manager who had been observing came to the scene and thundered loudly.
"Tonia, can't you see the inscription on the card? How dare you delay an honorable customer to listen to useless rants?. This card is customized for world class people. Do you want to lose your job?"
As for both of you," he turned to Richmond and Jake.
"Get out of this mall this minute. We don't need customers like you who berate other customers without consideration."
They turned to leave but the manager stopped them.
"Kneel and apologize right now to the world class customer."
"Never, we will do no such thing," they both chorused, turning their faces away.
"We will never bow to a thief. He stole four thousand from our friend in school."
"I say bow and apologize before I call the security to beat you up into a pulp," the manager demanded.
They hurriedly bowed to Roland who smirked, touching his chin intermittently.
"We are sorry, Roland, for our rudeness." They muttered.
Speak out," the manager thundered.
We are sorry," they shouted.
"That's better. You can now leave this mall. Drop your items and leave, right away."
They left hurriedly and almost tripped as they bumped into another customer who had just walked into the mall.
The manager turned to Roland and apologized with a bow of the head.
"We are really sorry," he said and bought a customized bag to pack the laptop and phones for him, ignoring the cashier who stood amazed at the reception the manager gave to the mystery man in rags.
"We will love to serve you better.
Thank you for patronizing us."
"Same here," he replied and walked away from the mall triumphantly.
He ordered a cab which took him to Aureus hotel, a seven star hotel in Los Angeles.
He booked a chalet and paid three million dollars for a week. He kept the phone and laptop at the table and walked downstairs to see if he could get something to eat. He was so hungry.
He sat at the table as he waited for the waiter to take his orders. He sighted Carolyn and Nancy pointing and laughing at him. He ignored them and turned to the waiter to take his orders.
He looked at the menu and placed his orders.
"Get me beef chilli with wheat noodles, burger and red wine to top it."
Carolyn walked over to him and touched his shoulders.
"How amazing? The pauper orders for beef chilli.
"Have you tasted such in your entire life?
"Can you even afford it?"
"You must be a dreamer, coming to this seven star hotel dressed in rags and ordering beef chilli," she uttered sarcastically as she sized Roland from head to toe.
Nancy, his estranged girlfriend joined her friend Carolyn to taunt him.
"Since we dated he never took me out for a good meal. Thank my stars I left him for Greg Maxwell the heir apparent to Exclux hotel, the top ten in Los Angeles. Right now, he traveled with his dad to sign some documents for a handover. He will soon be back and we will continue our romance.
As for you Roland, you will rot in penury and no girl will be able to put up with you for as long as you live."
"Will you shut up, Nancy and walk back to your seat?
And you Carolyn, take your friend and walk back to your seat calmly before you regret your day here today."
"Regret?
Who regrets what?"
The loser talks about regret.
You are the one who would regret ever walking into a seven star hotel to order for a meal that you cannot even pay for. This shows you are a real thief yearning for what you can't get in this life and in the life to come," Nancy taunted him and it cut deep.
Roland's body trembled, his eyes reddening and a brief furrow showed on his face revealing his disgust. He stood and shook Nancy so hard that her screams drew everyone's attention towards them.
"Pauper, leave me, you are hurting me," she cried as her face turned pale and her cheeks flushed.
"Roland, leave my friend alone. Leave her alone," Carolyn screamed, hitting Roland on the back.
The hotel supervisor came to the scene and in an attempt to separate the fight stumbled on the card placed on the table.
"Who has this card?" Mr. Ferdinand, the hotel supervisor demanded.
Roland loosened his grip on Nancy and turned back.
"It's my card. I intend to pay with the card after the meal before these ladies obstructed me."
"You mean this is your card and you are dressed in rags?" Mr. Ferdinand asked, sizing him over.
"Yes, it is my card Sir, world bank card."
"Yes I can see clearly," Mr. Ferdinand concurred.
"This card is customized for special people. It is not everyone that has this card.
Please ,take your meal and pay."
Mr. Ferdinand dismissed everyone and they went back to wait for their meal.
"Let's watch and see how this fool will pay for his meal," Carolyn whispered to Nancy who winced in pain.
"Yes, we will see. Then I will report him to Greg who will deal with him mercilessly for this hurt he inflicted on my arm as he gripped me," Nancy winced in pain, ho
lding her arm tenderly.
The waiter served the food and they ate hurriedly. Roland brought out his card, paid for his meal and walked towards the elevator.
