The room felt increasingly smaller, even though it hadn't actually changed. "You will find the answer here," the woman said again before disappearing into the shadows, as if she had become one with the surrounding darkness.
Cassie clutched her jacket tightly, trying to calm her now heavy breathing. Her mind was a whirlwind of fear, confusion, and the urge to keep moving forward. The old woman's words swirled in her head. What was really happening? Why her? And how could all of this have been planned long before she was born?
She glanced around the room. Old paintings with unfamiliar faces stared back, as if watching her. It felt as though every object in that house held a secret waiting to be uncovered, yet Cassie wasn't ready to understand it. With careful steps, she continued her journey deeper into the house.
