The moment was filled with silence, but a comfortable silence, as if their conversation from the previous night had built a new bond. Cassie smiled as she noticed Kevin standing in the doorway of the kitchen.
"Good morning," Cassie greeted softly without turning away from the stove. "Did you sleep well?"
Kevin nodded gently, feeling more at ease than before. "Yeah, kind of. How about you?"
Cassie turned, her smile still present. "I think I slept better than I have in the past few nights."
Kevin approached the kitchen table and sat down, his eyes observing his sister, who seemed calmer, even though there were dark circles under her eyes, signs of her not having slept well for a while.
