Chapter 147 - Chapter 147: Appearing on the Show

At midnight on July 1st, the book will be launched. Thank you for your support and encouragement.

After a brief separation, the couple slept until after ten the next morning. William looked at Ambrosio, who was tightly holding him, feeling a wave of tenderness. He kissed her forehead gently and carefully got up to wash.

After getting dressed, William picked up today's newspaper, which was full of news about him. Many papers featured his shots from yesterday as the front page.

William's 7 out of 10 shots from the midline had shocked all of America. Numerous basketball experts were interviewed by the media, providing various analyses and speculations. They even dug up the archery incident from London.

For American audiences, 7 out of 10 from the midline was already very surprising. But upon seeing William's archery video from London, they were no longer just shocked; it was as if they had seen a god. Was this guy even human?

Not even 20 years old, he was already a billionaire, an accurate shooter, an excellent archer, and his girlfriend was far more beautiful than any of theirs. This made American men insanely jealous. What was he doing in New York? Just to show off?

Many people online were calling for William to go back to England, saying New York didn't welcome him. Even the stock market was affected. As soon as it opened at 9 AM, it fluctuated and fell, making Americans even more unwelcoming.

A New York media personality publicly called on television for the government to send William back to England, claiming he was a jinx whose presence caused the stock market to drop, resulting in significant losses for many.

Some people in the market were spreading rumors that William came to New York because he had a pessimistic view of the stock market, thinking it would continue to fall, and that he was already shorting the index. This rumor actually convinced many small investors.

Watching TV, William had to seriously consider going on a show. He didn't want to be used as a tool by certain people in the stock market, bearing all the blame without any benefits.

While contemplating appearing on a show, he received a call from the hotel lobby. Oprah herself had come to the hotel, hoping William could appear on her show tomorrow night.

With Oprah personally visiting, there was no reason to hesitate. He had already been considering it. William went downstairs to invite Oprah up. After some pleasantries, Oprah directly asked if William had time to appear on her show tomorrow.

William agreed, and after discussing the show's content, Oprah left. Her time was precious, and letting William cut in line would undoubtedly require many favors. But considering William's current popularity in America, Oprah felt it was all worth it.

After seeing Oprah off, William woke the still-sleeping Ambrosio. They had a lavish lunch at a Michelin three-star restaurant and then spent the afternoon shopping in New York.

They were constantly followed by paparazzi on Fifth Avenue. The paparazzi were thrilled because William and Ambrosio didn't mind being photographed. William now had a sort of protection, and he didn't have any real enemies at the moment.

In his second life, he didn't want to live so stressfully. After an afternoon of shopping, they had dinner and then watched a movie, "Gladiator," returning to the hotel at 11 PM to wash up and sleep.

The next day, William took Ambrosio to Oprah's production company. The Oprah Show's rights were owned by Oprah herself; she had her own production company and partnered with television networks, rather than being subordinate to them.

Since William was cutting in line, he only had ten minutes. Entering the studio to Oprah's welcome, the live audience greeted him with loud applause and cheers.

William was the hottest topic right now. Many young American girls adored him. Oprah had to signal for silence several times before the audience quieted down, making her very happy. She knew she had made the right decision; William was genuinely popular in America.

"Alright, alright, I know you're all excited. William Devonshire, England's super genius, earl heir, billionaire, game producer, archery expert, three-point shot expert, welcome, William. Please have a seat."

"Thank you," William said as he sat down. Today, he wore casual clothes: a white T-shirt, jeans, and sneakers, looking as youthful as possible. This was intentional, hoping that his youthful appearance would make people less jealous.

"William, thank you for joining The Oprah Show. Let's start with the first question. Many Americans believe you came to America for the stock market. What do you have to say about that? Will the market continue to fall?"

William gave an apologetic look and said, "Thank you for inviting me to The Oprah Show. I wanted to address this to the American public. I'm sorry, Oprah, but I can't predict the stock market. All I can say is that it will fall again, but I can't say when or at what level."

The audience gasped, surprised that William dared to make such a statement.

Oprah quickly asked, "So, you're saying you came to America for the stock market? Many people are in despair right now, William. Are you sure you want to do this? Are you not afraid of becoming a public enemy by making money off the suffering of investors?"

"Of course I'm afraid. I live in the real world and have to consider public opinion. So rest assured, I currently have no plans to enter the futures market.

In March, I specifically advised the traders at the Swiss National Bank, who were betting against me, not to bet against ordinary investors. If they had followed my advice, the National Bank wouldn't have just made $400 million; they would have made over $2 billion," William said.

The audience and Oprah gasped in surprise, struggling to understand. Oprah asked, "So, you held back? But why? In most people's eyes, making money in the stock market is paramount, even if it means controversy."

William said helplessly, "Public opinion can influence government perspectives to some extent. I believe I will invest more in business in Europe and America in the future. The market will allow me to make more money, so I don't want to overly offend it."

Oprah exclaimed, "Oh my God!" and quickly said, "So, it's not that you can't make more money in the futures market; you just don't want to?"

William confidently replied, "Yes, I'm very sure I can make more money because I believe the stock market crash is temporary. The market will eventually recover."

Oprah nodded and asked, "William, you are very confident. Are you sure you can make more than $2 billion in the European and American markets? And to confirm again, you're not here to play the futures market?"

"Of course. I'm here to make money and take some people along with me, not to attract hatred. I'm very sure I won't touch futures for the next few years, I promise."
