William asked curiously, "Thank me for what? I was less than 20 days old back then."
Carlos chuckled, "Henry later told me that it was your birth that gave him hope. That's why he kindly saved me. Otherwise, he might have just ignored me and gone home."
William smiled inwardly. That was indeed Henry's character. To avoid trouble, he might have just walked away. It seemed that he, Carlos, and Wesley had a significant connection. "What happened afterward?"
Carlos's face showed a painful expression as he continued, "When I woke up two days later, Henry, upon learning my situation, kindly drove to pick up Wesley but couldn't find him. We searched for two weeks before Henry used his connections to locate Wesley at a nearby farmer's house.
Wesley had stayed under the bridge for three days without food or water and had developed a high fever. Fortunately, on Christmas Day, the farmer's dog found him, and he was rescued and taken to the hospital, where he was in a coma for several days before waking up.
I was worried about Wesley's safety and decided not to reunite with him. After ensuring his safety, I spent over a year with Henry's help trying to find my enemies, but we never succeeded. So, I stayed with Henry, training and completing missions while watching over Wesley from a distance."
Two years later, the farmer's family sold their farm and moved to New York. Following Henry's arrangements, I also went to New York, secretly joining the Assassin Brotherhood to learn their skills while staying close to Wesley."
Carlos's eyes showed a nostalgic look as he continued, "Time flies. Twenty years have passed, and both you and Wesley have grown up. It's a shame Henry passed away, and I'm getting old too."
"So, Wesley and I are like brothers," William said, slyly flattering Carlos.
Carlos was very pleased with William's words and happily said, "Of course, you are definitely brothers. Without you and Henry, I wouldn't be alive, nor would I have found Wesley. You are brothers."
Carlos then looked a bit embarrassed and said, "But Wesley doesn't have your ambition. He's just drifting through life in New York. I wonder if you and Wesley will get along."
William, smiling broadly, said, "Don't worry, we'll get along just fine." He thought to himself that since they were like brothers and the families had a long-standing relationship, it would be easier for his future son to marry Wesley's daughter. William was determined that the Devonshire family's descendants should inherit the superhuman abilities of Wesley and Carlos.
Moreover, if his plan succeeded, William would not be foolish enough to send Carlos and Wesley to their deaths. These two super assassins would always be useful to the Devonshire family.
"So, did you come to me this time because of Wesley?" William asked.
Carlos nodded, then shook his head, speaking firmly, "Since you've inherited Henry's legacy and power, I no longer need to stay in the Assassin Brotherhood. I've learned everything I needed, and I don't want to stay there anymore. Besides, under the new leader, the Brotherhood has slowly changed.
I discovered that the leader, Sloan, is cooperating with a secret organization, and their assassination targets no longer follow the guidance of the Loom of Fate.
Since the Brotherhood's mission has become tainted, I have no reason to stay. However, leaving safely is not easy. I'm worried that Sloan might have discovered Wesley's existence over the years. If I leave, Wesley and I will face the Brotherhood's pursuit. I don't care how many come after me, but I'm concerned for Wesley's safety."
Carlos's tone turned fierce as he continued, "So, I'm secretly joining forces with some European Brotherhood members who doubt the missions. We want to eliminate the New York Brotherhood, but we lack the strength. I need your help, William."
"Is this why Carlos purged the New York Brotherhood in the movie? He's old, his child has grown up, and he wants to quit. To ensure safety, he plans to root out the organization that's existed for hundreds or even thousands of years? What's in it for me?"
Wait a minute, the European Brotherhood and the New York Brotherhood don't get along. If the New York Brotherhood is destroyed, Carlos might organize the European members into a new Assassin Brotherhood.
William thought happily. If his plan succeeded, he would have a powerful group of assassin allies, or even subordinates.
Having thought it through, William asked, "What do you need me to do?"
"Money, intelligence, and connections. To eliminate the New York Brotherhood, we need to ensure that the local authorities don't interfere."
"Money is not a problem. Intelligence and connections will take time. But there's an opportunity now. I've been rescuing a retired New York special agent named Brian Mills's daughter, Ginny. She's safe now.
Brian has extensive connections in the USA. I'm planning to talk to him about supporting his entry into the government. To succeed, we need to clean up loose ends."
Carlos, smiling, said, "No problem. Assassination is my specialty. No one can escape my kill shots."
Remembering the movie where Carlos and Wesley could snipe targets from miles away as easily as others could at twenty meters, William felt uneasy. Thankfully, they were on his side. Otherwise, he wouldn't know how to avoid their shots.
Seeing Carlos's confidence, William shook his head. "No, one of the targets is a member of the French Security Committee. We can't openly assassinate him. It needs to look like an accident or suicide. The other target also can't alarm the French authorities, as he is connected to many people's money."
"That's fine. It just requires more effort. When do we act?"
William nodded, having already planned it out. "First, we go to Belote Street. Brian used fake intelligence to lure Claude to an abandoned factory there at 9 PM."
Carlos checked his watch. It was already 7 PM. "Do you have a plan? We don't have much time to prepare."
William nodded, smiling. "Let's go. Help me buy some tools. I can't show my face. You should have no problem with that."
Carlos nodded, understanding William's situation. It was best if he stayed out of sight.
William took out his phone, wrote down a list of items, and sent it to Carlos. "You buy these things. I'll go scout the abandoned factory on Belote Street."
Carlos checked the list on his phone and quickly laughed. "Alright, I'll head to Belote Street once I have the items."
They donned their helmets, rode their motorcycles, and went their separate ways to prepare.
