Chapter 70 - Chapter 70: Counterattack

William was watching the game when he noticed two burly men in black jackets approaching. His instincts kicked in, and he quickly scanned them with his psychic powers, immediately detecting that they both had guns tucked into their waists.

He stood up and turned around to see Clark stepping out from the shadows by the window.

"Damn Lucifer, is he looking for death?" William thought. He hadn't sought out trouble with Lucifer, yet here he was, sending men to the hotel to kidnap him. William was certain that even if Lucifer got the ransom, he wouldn't be spared; he would undoubtedly be silenced.

William glanced at Clark with a smile and swiftly headed towards the balcony. Once there, he immediately retrieved a Glock 17 from his storage space, removed the safety, loaded the weapon, and partially exposed himself to aim at the nearest two mercenaries. He fired two shots.

The sound of the gunshots, "Bang, bang," echoed, and the heads of the two closest mercenaries to William suddenly exploded. They collapsed, convulsing on the ground without a single groan.

Clark and the other four mercenaries were stunned by this sudden turn of events. They quickly sought cover upon hearing the gunshots, while people outside the hotel, startled by the noise from the balcony, began to scream and scatter in panic.

Chaos erupted on the street as people fled, covering their heads and ducking for cover.

Outside the hotel, Lucifer, alarmed by the gunfire, hurriedly instructed his men, "Gather your gear and rush inside. Capture William Devonshire immediately. Remember, I want him alive. In a dangerous situation, aim for non-lethal areas like his hands or legs."

His subordinates nodded, "Understood, boss. We'll shoot to disable if necessary and capture him alive."

"Good. Move quickly. The police will be here in less than ten minutes. Split into teams and hold them off at the intersections."

"Got it," the men responded. They split into groups, with about ten heading to block the police at the intersections, while the remaining twenty armed with AKs stormed towards the hotel.

Inside, William, still hiding behind the balcony wall, used his psychic powers to scan the restaurant. His peripheral vision caught sight of dozens of heavily armed thugs approaching the hotel. He cursed under his breath,

"Who the hell are these people? Charging towards the hotel with AKs in broad daylight? Damn it, they must be Lucifer's men. This is trouble. With so many AKs, even one hit could be fatal or crippling."

William crouched down, using the balcony as cover, and retrieved an M4A1 rifle and a tactical bulletproof vest from his storage. He secured the pistol holster and loaded six magazines for the M4A1 into the vest's pouches.

He grabbed a few stun grenades, threw them into the restaurant, targeting the areas where the kidnappers were hiding.

After throwing the grenades, William quickly crouched in the corner of the balcony, covering his ears. He knew all too well the devastating effect of stun grenades indoors, having previously used them to incapacitate a team of suicide squads.

"Watch out, grenades!" one of the mercenaries shouted. Three loud bangs followed.

The mercenaries in the restaurant were temporarily incapacitated, giving William a moment to deal with the thugs outside. He grabbed his M4A1, stood up, and started firing at the heavily armed attackers heading towards the hotel.

The rapid gunfire, "Tat-tat-tat, tat-tat-tat," filled the air. William's shoulder pressed against the stock as he fired relentlessly at the approaching thugs, who were caught off guard by the sudden onslaught. They scrambled for cover or hit the ground.

This gave William enough time to empty two magazines in about ten seconds, leaving the attackers dazed and confused. They hadn't anticipated such fierce resistance and had neglected to use tactical maneuvers as they approached the hotel.

Finally, some of the attackers began to fire back at William. In the brief moments before he ducked back into cover, he managed to take down about ten men. As the bullets whizzed past him, hitting the balcony, William reloaded his M4A1 and pulled out his Glock 17 from its holster.

Using his psychic powers, he located two disoriented mercenaries, stunned by the grenades. He moved swiftly, shooting them in the head with two quick shots.

"Bang, bang," and the two men, already lying on the ground, stopped moving. William advanced a few more steps to the corner, pulled out a grenade, and threw it towards the bar where two other mercenaries had avoided the stun grenades.

"Boom," the grenade exploded. The two men hiding at the bar barely had time to react before being blasted by the shockwave, their bodies thrown into the air like rag dolls, crashing to the ground, lifeless.

By this time, Clark, cowering in a corner of the restaurant, was paralyzed with fear. He had never encountered such a formidable opponent. In less than two minutes, all six of his men had been wiped out. Listening intently to the sounds in the restaurant, he trembled uncontrollably, his gun shaking in his hand.

Seconds ticked by slowly. Ten seconds, twenty seconds—Clark felt time dragging unbearably. His hands trembled, then his feet. He was drenched in sweat, screaming in desperation, "Come out! Come out, William Devonshire! Come out and face me!"

William, hiding behind a table just four meters away, listened to Clark's frenzied shouting. He picked up a nearby chair and hurled it towards Clark's corner.

The chair, propelled by William's tremendous strength, ricocheted off the wall and hit Clark.

Clark, on edge, immediately fired at the chair, but as he realized what it was, he relaxed slightly. But that tiny moment of relaxation was all William needed. By the time Clark turned his gun back, he found himself staring down the barrel of a Glock aimed at his head.

Clark looked up into William's cold, merciless eyes. Just as he raised his hands to surrender, a shot rang out, "Bang," and Clark plunged into eternal darkness.

William stood over Clark's lifeless body, showing no hesitation or remorse. "You wanted to kill me; now face the consequence," he thought. There was no room for mercy, especially with more thugs armed with AKs outside and below the hotel, waiting for him.

He had no time for sympathy. Today, he would take them all down. Firstly, to test his skills acquired from the system. Secondly, to send a message to anyone eyeing his wealth.

With his recent game sales bringing in over 220 million dollars and another 170 million won at the gambling tables, William's cash reserves had ballooned to nearly 400 million dollars. Such wealth made him a prime target. To many, he was a jackpot, a walking fortune.

William decided to act decisively. He aimed to wipe out these thugs as a warning to others who might consider targeting him.

And Lucifer would not be spared either. William was determined to eliminate any threats. With his mother and future family in mind, he couldn't afford to leave a viper lurking in the shadows. Only the dead don't seek revenge.
