It was a beautiful day, er... night at Shady Pines long term care facility. The evening medications had been passed and the residents tucked into bed.
This gave everyone's favorite male nurse, Kai, a chance to hide in the break room.
His green eyes gazed at the never changing selection contained in the vending machine. Like clockwork, he swiped his debut card and punched the number E5 on the touch screen.
Within moments, the terrible vending mechanism failed, throwing his can of Red Bull to the bottom of the machine.
He grumbled an obscenity under his breath, then tried again. This time, it was a success. He finally had a can of Red Bull in his right hand, after being charged double the price for the can.
He thought about getting Liam something, but his fiancée didn't usually partake in vending machine beverages. He was too healthy. The only reason they ever ate out was when Kai insisted.
Usually, Liam drank water.
