Kai rushed over to the rehab unit and found Kenna. He looked at her. She seemed visibly upset when he found her.
"What's going on?" Kai asked her.
"Russell is gone."
"Gone?"
"H-He's dead."
Kai's eyes widened. As far as he was aware, there was nobody who was actively passing.
Alex came from a room. He gestured at Kai, so the blonde nurse walked to him. The CNA led him into the room.
When Kai entered, he noticed the man lying on his back in the bed. His arms were contracted upward, and his skin was an ashy-grey hue. It didn't look like he had a peaceful death.
Kai felt the radial pulse under the man's thumb, on his wrist, and with his index and middle fingers. He detected no pulse, so he felt for the carotid artery on the neck. No pulse was detected there, either.
He listened to Russell's chest with his stethoscope, but no respiration or heart rate were heard, so he turned toward Alex.
"What happened?"
