Chapter 16 - Thunder Piercer

"That's a Wyvern? This is my first time seeing a Wyvern. I heard they have high immunity to magical attacks. I would like to try it!"

Magnus remained surprisingly calm, feeling a surge of excitement as he laid eyes on the formidable creature in pursuit of his team.

Gilgamel solemnly explained, "This Wyvern possesses a passive magical ability that grants it high immunity to magic-based attacks. This ability is only disabled when the Wyvern uses another magical ability. Therefore, the only feasible method to inflict damage on the Wyvern is to capitalize on the opportunity when it employs its other magical ability."

Pinching his chin, Collin commented: "That is a very troublesome magical ability. As far as I'm aware, Wyverns' physical strength places them at the forefront among magical beasts. Therefore, even without relying on their magical abilities, Wyverns remain unbeatable within the same tier of magical beasts."

Although he seldom ventured outside and had never engaged in combat with other creatures, he had amassed extensive knowledge through reading numerous books.

It could be said that he had made ample preparations for such situations.

"Leave it to me!"

Farad rose to his feet, and a trident-shaped magic staff appeared in his hand with a crackle of energy. His body became surrounded by a shimmering yellow glow, a sure sign that he was prepared for battle. But before leaping into action, he turned to Gilgamel and inquired, "Can you catch me?"

Gilgamel smirked and answered, "Do as you like!"

As the imposing Wyvern drew nearer, its fierce countenance gradually became more discernible. Without a moment's hesitation, Farad leapt off the flying carpet and sprinted directly toward it.

"What a pity~" Magnus murmured as he watched Farad go to attack the Wyvern.

"I also want to fight that Wyvern, but unfortunately, aerial combat is not my specialty."

"ROAAR!"

The wyvern unleashed a resounding roar at Farad, who fearlessly advanced towards it. The powerful sound reverberated through the air, showcasing its immense strength even without relying on its magical abilities.

Farad maintained a calm, expressionless demeanour despite its intimidating display, displaying his unyielding resolve in the face of the Wyvern's aggression.

Farad, gripping his staff tightly, summoned all his strength and swung it in a wide arc towards the Wyvern. Despite the force behind the blow, the Wyvern expertly used its rigid wings to deflect the attack.

Furious at the defiance of its prey, the Wyvern unleashed its long, sharp tail in a vicious swing aimed at Farad.

Farad channelled his mana in response, causing his entire body to crackle with yellow lightning. He dodged the incoming tail strike with a sudden burst of speed by swiftly moving to the left, easily avoiding the deadly attack.

Without waiting for the Wyvern's next attack, Farad channelled all his mana into the surging lightning encircling his body. In an instant, he darted forward and materialized directly in front of the Wyvern, ready to unleash his next move.

He gripped his sharp staff tightly and slashed it vertically into the Wyvern's right eye.

In a split second, Wyvern found itself defenceless as Farad's physical attack struck, taking it completely by surprise and inflicting a severe injury upon its right eye.

As a result, It could only groan in pain as it watched its blackish-red blood flow onto Farad's staff.

As rage consumed the Wyvern, it lunged at Farad with its claws charged with sinister, dark energy.

Farad instinctively sought to evade the strike using his lightning-boosted agility. Yet, he was startled as he realised the Wyvern's attack swiftly matched his own enhanced speed.

Forced to make a split-second decision, Farad raised his staff to block the menacing claws, only to be hurled backwards like a shooting star upon impact.

As he teetered on the edge of falling, the flying carpet swiftly surged toward him, accelerating at high speed before skillfully swooping in to catch him just in time.

"Are you alright?" Medelien asked with concern when she saw the red liquid flowing from the corner of Farad's mouth.

"It's nothing to be concerned about, just a minor injury," Farad reassured her while delicately wiping the blood away with his thumb.

Seeing Farad's condition, Magnus couldn't help but make fun of him and said: "Do you need help? You looked like you were struggling just now."

Farad snorted and replied, "No need! I was just caught off guard because the Wyvern's speed suddenly increased drastically."

"That should be Empower." Gilgamel elaborated, "That's one of the four magical abilities this Wyvern has. Upon activation, Empower grants the Wyvern an immense surge in physical prowess, enhancing its attack, speed, and defence to extraordinary levels."

Farad frowned, "Four magical abilities? I thought Tier-1 magical beasts only had three magical abilities..."

Gilgamel smiled and said, "Exceptions exist in every situation. Typically, magical beasts with high bloodlines possess more magical abilities than those with low bloodlines at the same tier. It's evident that this Wyvern falls into the category of high-bloodline magical beasts."

Magical beasts with a bloodline of at least "5" are classified as high-bloodline creatures. These high-bloodline magical beasts have the potential to reach at least Tier 5 without the need for evolution like Dodo. Naturally, the number of magical abilities they have cannot be counted in common sense.

As Magnus heard this information, he fixed Farad with a determined gaze, his eyes brimming with meaning as he questioned: "Surely a mere increment in magical ability isn't enough to intimidate you, right, Farad?"

In response, Farad harrumphed dismissively.

Farad's body crackled with vibrant yellow lightning as he harnessed his supernatural power. Without uttering a word, he lunged towards the Wyvern, which was relentlessly pursuing the flying carpet.

The air crackled with electricity as the two adversaries clashed in a fierce and intense close combat encounter.

Farad harnessed the power of his unique magic spell, "Flash", to dart from one location to another with lightning speed. His movements were so swift and unpredictable that he managed to inflict multiple wounds on the Wyvern's body.

In response to Farad's relentless assault, the enraged Wyvern resorted to using its Empower ability once more in order to match Farad's incredible speed.

As the opportunity presented itself, Farad quickly sprung into action. With a determined look in his eyes, he raised his staff high into the air, channelling his mana, and said: "Thunder Piercer!"

As he uttered the incantation, the air crackled with energy and five shimmering blades, each composed of pure lightning, materialized and began to whirl around him.

With a decisive motion, Farad pointed out his staff toward the Wyvern. Simultaneously, the five lightning blades, moving with an imperceptible speed, streaked through the air toward the towering Wyvern, poised to strike with electrifying force.

The Wyvern quivered as it sensed the formidable power of the five lightning blades. Despite activating Empower to fortify its defence, it felt an overwhelming urge to flee. It became clear, however, that its efforts would ultimately prove futile.

Thunder Piercer was a tremendously formidable Tier-1 magic spell, exhibiting power remarkably close to that of Tier-2 spells. What set this spell apart was its remarkable capacity to lock onto a specific target and relentlessly pursue it.

No matter how far the target attempted to flee, Thunder Piercer would continue its relentless chase as long as the target remained within the caster's range of vision.

"Puchi!"

The five lightning blades Farad launched pierced several parts of the Wyvern's body and created terrifying holes.

The Wyvern let out a bone-chilling, guttural roar of agony, its tattered wings flapping desperately as it fought to stay aloft. Gradually, its strength waned, and with a heart-wrenching bellow, its massive form plummeted towards the floor of the Colosseum.

Farad, who was already on the flying carpet, could only watch as the Wyvern fell to the ground.

He didn't receive any notification from the tracking device, which indicated that the Wyvern was still alive.

"It is truly a resilient creature. Should I finish it off?" Magnus, who stood beside Farad, couldn't help but ponder.

Gilgamel was silent momentarily before shaking his head and saying thoughtfully, "Never mind. That Wyvern has probably deactivated its Empower. It would be useless to bombard it with your magic from here. Besides, such a high-profile action might even attract the attention of even more terrifying abyssal creatures."

"We have a full month left to accumulate points. Additionally, we have access to this hunting ground, where we can hunt abyssal creatures anytime. Our priority is to leave this location quickly. Something about this place fills me with discomfort and unease."

"Maybe it's because of the dense abyssal energy in this place. I've heard that abyssal energy can be potent and adversely affect living beings. Prolonged exposure to abyssal energy can cause discomfort and may potentially lead to a transformation into an abyssal creature. Since this is our first encounter with abyssal energy, it's natural for us to feel uncomfortable," Medelien expressed her thoughts.

Gilgamel wore a frown upon hearing Medelien's words. While her points were indeed reasonable, an unknown unease still gnawed at him. Although the abyssal energy in this place did make him uncomfortable, it wasn't solely responsible for his growing sense of unease.
