Chapter 17 - Magnus, I Choose You!

After defeating the Wyvern, Gilgamel adeptly employed his mana to maneuver his flying carpet through the skies.

The flying carpet, in and of itself, appeared to be nothing more than an ordinary rug, lacking the inherent ability to soar through the skies. However, its seemingly magical flight capabilities resulted from Gilgamel's adept use of two magic spells simultaneously.

The first magic spell is Levitate, which allowed Gilgamel to elevate the flying carpet into the air effortlessly. Through his extensive mastery of this spell, Gilgamel could sustain the carpet's flight at a steady, balanced altitude with unwavering precision.

The second magic spell, Telekinesis, enabled Gilgamel to manipulate the flying carpet's direction deftly. This basic magic spell allowed him to guide the carpet through the air with exceptional control and finesse, making the seemingly impossible act of flying on a carpet a reality.

Utilizing two magic spells at once was truly exhausting, especially when done consistently—furthermore, Gilgamel required intense focus to sustain both spells.

As his flying carpet soared through the sky above the Colosseum, Gilgamel and his teammates marvelled at the stunning view below. Suddenly, a massive stone pillar hurtled towards them with alarming speed, catching them completely off guard.

Panic surged through Gilgamel as he realized the imminent danger. The stone pillar approached in eerie silence, devoid of any discernible magical energy. If only there had been some trace of mana fluctuations, they could have detected the threat from afar.

In a split-second reaction, Magnus sprang into action, wielding his staff with precision to shatter the stone pillar before it could cause harm. Despite Magnus's quick intervention, the force of the impact was overwhelming, sending shockwaves through the air.

The jarring collision destabilized Gilgamel's control over the flying carpet, causing him and his teammates to be violently thrown from their airborne vantage point into the corridor of the Colosseum.

After the smoke of dust settled, Gilgamel was seen leaning against the wall, clearly feeling discomfort. It seemed that he had strained his back, but fortunately, it didn't appear to be a serious injury. As he looked around at his teammates, he noticed they also seemed to be dealing with minor injuries from the impact just now.

"Hey, are you guys okay? I'm sorry I couldn't maintain my magic spells," Gilgamel said with an ashamed expression.

"Well, the impact was quite strong. It's normal for you to lose your balance," Magnus said with a reassuring smile.

He then grinned as if he didn't blame Gilgamel. Confused, he then tilted his head and asked: "But what was that just now? I didn't even realize where the large stone pillar came from!"

"Cough," Collin coughed as he struggled to get up and said, "I saw it! It was a giant ape. It was standing in the direction the stone pillar came from. Moreover, I suspect that the ape is a Tier-2 abyssal creature."

As he plummeted from the flying carpet, he desperately tried to keep his gaze fixed on the stone pillar that had struck his companions. There, amidst the chaos, he caught sight of a massive abyssal creature with a distinctly simian shape.

What set his heart racing was the absence of any detectable mana emanating from the ape-like creature. This peculiar situation could only mean one thing: it was a Tier-2 abyssal creature, a being of immense power that surpassed his own.

"Of all the luck," Medelien muttered under her breath, the frustration evident in her voice as she processed the gravity of the encounter.

"It's not as bad as you think. Besides, it seems like that ape is just trying to prevent us from leaving this place," Collin observed, looking toward the spot where he had seen the ape earlier, though it was no longer visible.

"It's as if it's trying to confine us like rats in a cage. I used to think these abyssal creatures were mindless," Medelien remarked, with a hint of scepticism regarding their situation.

"Hey," Gilgamel remarked thoughtfully, "At the end of the day, abyssal creatures are primarily driven by instinct and desire. It seems like it enjoys watching us frantically flee from those Tier-1 abyssal creatures, as we did earlier."

"Eh, what kind of fetish is that?" Medelien shuddered as she imagined the image of an ape's face turning red and staring disgustingly at her in suffering.

Gilgamel stared at Medelien speechlessly.

Girl, what are you imagining?

"What a nasty ape! Even though it is just a five-point creature!" Farad, who typically kept his opinions to himself, couldn't help but express his disgust at the ape.

Gilgamel and the others immediately laughed at the insult. At the same time, they realized that Farad rarely spoke, but his words were always on point when he did.

As the tension eased, a towering and muscular humanoid figure with emerald-coloured skin emerged in the corridor. The figure was clad in formidable warrior attire and brandished a crude yet imposing weapon resembling a massive hammer.

An information panel immediately appeared the moment Gilgamel saw its appearance.

"It seems that even though that ape has no intention of attacking us further, it won't let us rest." Magnus sneered as his eyes fixed on the approaching Orc.

After triumphing over a formidable level 9 Wyvern, an equally menacing level 9 Orc emerged as their next opponent.

If they hadn't met a Tier-2 abyssal creature earlier, they might have dismissed it as sheer bad luck to encounter two level-9 abyssal creatures in succession.

This led them to strongly believe that the mastermind orchestrating these relentless attacks was none other than the ape.

"This Orc has troublesome magical abilities. Be careful!" Gilgamel reminded his teammates.

Magnus gazed at Gilgamel, astonishment lighting up his features as he blurted out: "Come to think of it, you mentioned the Wyvern's magical abilities before. Can you tell the abyss creature's magical abilities with just a glance?"

"That's right! However, now is not the moment for admiration. Quickly defeat it! This time, I choose you, Magnus!" Gilgamel exclaimed, his gaze brimming with fierce determination, as he directed his finger towards the Orc.

Everyone immediately looked at him with a strange expression.

Meanwhile, a sly grin played upon Magnus's lips as he chuckled wordlessly. With his staff in hand, he advanced, prepared to confront the Orc.

Gilgamel shouted, "Magnus, use Fireball!"

Magnus' face twitched before he spoke, "I don't have Fireball, but I do have this..."

He tapped his staff on the floor, invoking magic that resonated through the air. Suddenly, the temperature around him surged as dozens of fiery rocks, each the size of a football, materialized behind him, radiating intense heat.

With an expressionless face, he unleashed the spell: "Melting Stone!"

The next moment, the fiery rocks immediately hurtle towards the menacing Orc, leaving a trail of fiery streaks in their wake.

The next moment, the fire-covered rocks immediately hurtle towards the menacing Orc, leaving a trail of fiery streaks in their wake.

The Orc let out a ferocious roar before retaliating against the attack. It quickly lifted its weapon and skillfully deflected the onslaught of fiery rocks hurtling toward it. Despite its efforts, some fiery rocks managed to break through its defences and deal much damage to its body.

Of course, the attack was not enough to defeat it. Filled with fury, the Orc let out a thunderous roar as it swung its colossal axe, lodging it forcefully into the wall. With a firm grip on the massive weapon, the Orc tore through the wall and charged ferociously towards Magnus.

As Magnus witnessed the scene, his expression immediately became serious. He spun his staff before assuming his battle stance, indicating he was ready for close combat.

Magnus and Farad shared many similarities. Despite each using different types of magic, they both belonged to the category of physical wizards. This meant that in addition to casting spells, they also mastered martial arts.

Furthermore, like Farad, who could enhance his martial arts skills using lightning magic, Magnus could strengthen his physical abilities with his unique magma magic.
