Chereads / The Cursed Grimoire / Chapter 17 - Negator.

Chapter 17 - Negator.

"Finally out of that hellhole," Damon thought. The people in the Eastern region were so brutal that they fed on those who were killed by the debris when Kenny descended.

The sight disgusted Damon, and the fact that they were eating their fallen companions raw made him want to retch.

After the meeting, which was unusually brief, Damon and Kenny went on their way without tasting the meals served as a peaceful gesture.

The sight of the meals clearly indicated that they were made from human flesh, and the water itself came from human excrement.

As they arrived at the store, the journey had been mostly quiet, mainly because they were on high alert to avoid ambushes from people who dwelled in the vicinity or anything life-threatening.

Here in the slums, anything could take one's life. Life itself was worth nothing in anyone's hands, and taking it was an everyday event. It was a clear example of the harsh reality of the world.

"When were you going to inform me that you awakened?" Kenny asked, rummaging through books on the bookshelves.

"Uhh?!"

"Don't act dumb; you're literally leaking destructive aura," Kenny continued without turning around or stopping what he was doing.

"From the looks of it, it wasn't long ago that you awakened. You have no control over calculating the dispersing energy that should be absorbed by the air. The aura is just wild, like it wants to destroy everything in the surroundings or anything that comes close."

Kenny finally found what he was looking for as he lectured Damon. He grabbed onto a particular brown book that had no title, pulling it slightly.

The sounds of gears unwinding were heard, and the five-meter bookshelf parted open to reveal what seemed like a storage room with delightful objects hanging on the walls—weapons.

"You see, being a Curseweaver doesn't just mean you have powers; instead, you have to accumulate them and stabilize the balance, becoming one with your surroundings to enable the power to course through you.

A Curseweaver without connections to the surrounding energy is as pathetic as a normal human, which is a disgrace—to become a being superior and still as weak as beings less than you."

"In your case, whatever ability you awakened is extremely destructive to the point that the air distances itself from you. Those with these abilities are called the Negate type Curseweavers, the most dangerous of us all."

For one, Damon wasn't surprised Kenny knew he had awakened—kind of. The way he awakened his ability was something unheard of: for an object to grant a human powers and even guide them on the path.

It was said higher entities gave humans their abilities, although the entity wasn't confirmed to exist. But everyone just went with it, and if it was found out that an object could perform the same act, powerful people would do anything to get their hands on it.

"What are these Negate type Curseweavers?"Damon asked, his curiosity piqued.

"The name Curseweaver simply means people who are cursed and utilize that curse for power. There are different varieties to use one's curse, which in short are called 'types.' There are three types known to man: the Pagators, Higators, and Negators."

"Each of these types mentioned represents the path a Curseweaver takes in their journey to greatness."

"The Pagators are people known to have attack abilities, great close-range attack power, and extreme accuracy in each of their advances. They are elite and have great potential to reach greatness.

The Higators are people with amazing healing and long-range abilities; they are mostly used as supporters. Although they aren't quite good with close combat, which is known to be their weakness.

And lastly, the Negators, which are the rarest and most dangerous type. Unlike the dark energy Curseweavers use, theirs uses the purest form, which is the most destructive.

They are known to be so powerful that they could take down someone two ranks higher than them."

"I see."

The concept of being was more complex than Damon initially thought, and Kenny claimed he was a Negator.

'Power needs to be better understood, however, I know I'm not a Curseweaver. They don't use Void energy; maybe my path is something similar,' Damon thought to himself.

The creature made of aura that he encountered resurfaced in his mind. It was evident that whatever that thing was, it was somehow related to his powers, fueling his determination to get stronger and prove to it that he wasn't weak.

"Now, choose your weapon,"Kenny said, pulling Damon from his thoughts.

Damon stepped forward and stared at the weapons, admiring their gleaming beauty of smoothened silver steel.

The wall consisted of a large magnificent sword with a scaly hilt sheathed in fine brown leather. Beside it were two smaller swords with thin blades designed to perform precise cuts in a solid rubber hilt.

And lastly, two guns of some sort, though they looked different from well-known firearms. Double yellow lines ran along each side to the trigger area, and strange inscriptions were carved into each of the weapons.

"What are these inscriptions, Kenny?"Damon asked.

"Those are very effective against Void creatures. How they are made, I have no idea. When I lived in the outside world, I took these weapons before I was thrown here," Kenny replied, handing Damon the two swords and a gun while he took the others.

"We don't know what we'll face in the outside world or how the situation will be, so it's better to be prepared," Kenny said as he advanced toward the store's backroom.

"Get some sleep; tomorrow's a big day."

"Of course," Damon replied as Kenny's figure disappeared.

Damon sat on the ground and placed the weapons before him as he stared at them.

'If Kenny's giving me these weapons, then something dangerous is beyond those walls. And I need to be strong enough to survive.'
