Synopsis

NORMAL NPC

The neon lights of Las Vegas twinkled in the night as Sumi looked out her apartment window onto the bustling streets below. Three years she had lived here now, trying to blend in as just another. But the shadows of her past were long, and no matter how far she fled it seemed they would always catch up to her eventually.

She turned from the window with a sigh, grabbing her backpack as she headed out the door for another day at North Vegas school. Her friends Lia, han and Jason were waiting as usual around the corner, chatting animatedly about the latest drama unfolding on some reality TV show. Sumi forced a smile as she joined them, grateful for the distraction their company provided, even if they didn't know the real reasons for her frequent nightmares and restless sleep.

First period dragged by endlessly as her history teacher droned on about some ancient battle. Sumi found her attention drifting, recalling another history far older and more sinister than any human conquest. The empire of Vanahar had ruled over countless worlds through conquest and subjugation for millennia, enforcing their tyranny with an iron fist. She had been born into that world, destined for a life of oppression and servitude until...

A sharp nudge in her side jolted Sumi from her thoughts. Lia was gesturing pointedly at the board where their assignment had been written. Sinking lower in her seat, Sumi sighed again. History always seemed to follow her, no matter how hard she tried to leave it behind.

After school let out, they stopped by the local bakery for a snack. Sumi nibbled on a pastry half-heartedly as Lia chattered about some school dance coming up while Jason mocked a classmate's failed chemistry experiment from that morning. For a moment, she almost allowed herself to forget, laughing along with them. But then across the bustling sidewalk, she glimpsed a shadow moving too fast, a glimmer of crimson eyes watching from the alleyway.

Her blood ran cold as memories came rushing back. It had been seven years since she escaped through the portal, but they had never stopped searching for her. Now, it seemed, they were closing in once more. Sumi forced herself to turn away before her friends noticed her panic, throwing out the remainder of her snack. "I, uh, just remembered I have to help my parents with something. See you guys tomorrow!"

I thought she didnt have a parents said lia with confusion.

Han watches while sumi was walking away.

Mhhhhh.... I wonder what that was all about.

She hurried down the street, pulled out her phone with feigned nonchalance, keeping tabs on the alley from her peripheral vision. But when she chanced a glance behind, it was empty, as if the figure had never been. Still, Sumi couldn't shake the terror gripping her heart. They were here. It was only a matter of time before they caught up to her.
