Chereads / Lord of Mysteries: The depths / Chapter 4 - - Rescuers

Chapter 4 - - Rescuers

Near an unknown island, a drizzle permeates the area, from sun drenched shore to the surface of the deep blue ocean.

Splashing in the sea, a young adolescent can be seen looking in horror at the bony jaws of death in front of him.

At a distance, it looked like a caterpillar was slowly wriggling towards a drop of dew. Except the caterpillar was some kind of giant abberant mix of bobbit worm and alien monster. And said drop of dew was poor little me.

Welp... The end?!?

Game over man! Game over!!!

Before the beast managed to snap it's jaws at me, I felt my spirituality drain rapidly.

The monster paused, before reeling back and 'looking around' with its tentacle-like antenna in confusion.

Yep! Please forget that I exist! So much better tasting food than skinny old me...

As both of us continued floating in the sea, waves bobbing us up and down, the damn worm refused to retreat back to the sand and just continued wriggling around in confusion.

I also did not try to swim away for fear of my splashing attracting it's attention.

Unfortunately, I can slowly feel myself hiting the limit of my spirituality. The drain was outpacing the regeneration I get from being in a body of water.

Probably because its a higher sequence mythical being. Skills costs more mana on higher level bosses? How lame... Devs please fix this shitty game!

Fuck me sideways.

If I run out of spirituality it will eventually detect me and my beyonder ability will not activate and make it 'forget'.

Then I'll be back to square one and end up on its menu once again...

Actually... if I run out of spirituality won't I 'lose control' and mutate into some kind of insane grotesque monster? Maybe being eaten might be a mercy. Hope it's quick and as painless as can be...

After a couple minutes of lamenting my doomed fate, all thoughts left my mind as giant jaws emerged from the water and snapped at the monster worm.

An eel like head rose out of the seas and dragged the worm down screaming and struggling into the depths before it's dark sillouhete slowly merged with the dark, unseen waters below.

As I looked down and saw nothing but black, the first thought was to get to dry lands as quick as possible. Before even stretching my hands to start swimming back, I was hit with a large dose of lethargy.

My hands and feet were numb and unable to control them, I began to sink down. I forced my eyes to open in the salt water to prevent myself from sleeping but my eyelids grew heavy.

Mustn't sleep... Will drown...

Darkness filled my vision as an uncontrollable fatigue and sleepiness assaulted me.

In the water, without even thoughts about breathing, I actually fell asleep.

It was comforting.

I even dreamt about using CW as chum bait...

Sounds of waves crushing onto sandy shores repeated over and over, a calm atmosphere further enhanced by the slight whistle of a gentle wind.

The screeches of seagulls woke me up.

A churning sound gurgled up from my stomach and into my throat.

Cough! Hack! Urgg...

I choked and vomitted sea water and sand.

What the heck?

My mind was dazed at finding myself laying face down on sand.

I got up from my prone position by pushing my hands against the ground and took a look around.

When did I go for a holiday? I remember being in my cozy air conditioned room...

I looked around and found myself in a small island. The sea water was foamy, slightly hiding the dull coloured corals underneath.

The island was small and composed of a ring of sand surrrounding a cluster of boulders totalling the size of a two storey house.

I don't see any huts though... Was I from an island hopping trip? Where's the tour boat though...

I looked at my hands. It was small and pale. Unlike my big and fat hands.

The heck! I'm a small boy!

Suddenly a terrible headache assaulted my mind. Flashes of memories inundated my brain.

This body I am in belonged to Arthur, an orphan that stowawayed in a small trader vessel to fulfill his childish misguided journey of becoming a pirate king.

The ship got caught in a storm and crashed in the middle of the sea. Everyone drowned. The shipwreck and victims were carried by the tides and washed away to an unknown island.

And now I transmigrated into the dead corpse of a drowned child. In the middle of bum fuck of all nowhere. What the heck! Why can't I transmigrate into a Japanese harem protagonist instead?

While admiring my youthful and smooth fingers, a feeling inside me 'clicked' and the words 'Potion digested' appeared in my mind.

For some unexplained reason, I felt relief?

Then a deluge of information entered my mind:

Promotion requirements to

Sequence 8 - Hooded figure;

consume the sequence 8 beyonder characteristics of:

Paragon pathway - Archeologist,

Hanged man pathway - Listener,

Abyss pathway - Coldblooded,

Chained pathway - Lunatic.

Sequence 8? That sounds familiar...

Fuck! This is the world of 'Lord of the Mysteries'!

...

I'm doomed!

I can't help but glance at the sky and notice a dim sillouhete of the moon.

Yep it's mother ducking red. No. Worse... It's crimson.

I had to pause as I felt something within me reduce.

Is that my spirituality? Huh. I have the ability to resist corruption... Ooo yeah no thoughts about horny moon mommy gods and stuff. Cogitation. Cogitation. Focus your thoughts on other stuff! Mustn't empty my spirituality. That shit will turn you insane...

As I instinctively dipped my feet in the water by the shore, I slowly felt my spirituality regain.

Welp. Better think of survival first. The apocalypse can wait for now.

I climbed to the top of the boulder and despite having no harness and climbing barefoot, I ascended the slippery, mossy boulder with ease. Almost as if I were born a mountain goat.

Not gonna complain about these skills. Could probably be an Olympics level rockclimber if I were back on earth.

Oh wait it's more like back in time? Probably a different earth from a different universe. Bleh it's too confusing, I'll let future me figure it out. Now, I've got to study the environment to see if there is anything that can help me out of my current predicament.

Luckily for me, I managed to spot a canoe being paddled a small distance away. I waved my hand and shouted as loud as I could and managed to get the attention of the fisherman on it.

My rescuers soon approached me and I took note of their appearance. Tanned and rough skinned, there were two of them and they wore almost nothing but a loincloth tied with some kind of vine. They had white body paint streaked across their arms and chest and wore necklaces adorned with shells and bones.

To be honest they reminded me of the forest dwelling cannibalistic tribal men you typically see in those Indiana Jones type of campy movies.

They started hollering at me and the first problem starts to be obvious when I could not understand what they were saying.

All I could think of was to gesture foolishly like a crippled mime while keeping a friendly smiling face on to show my harmlessness. Also, my little boy stature probably helped accentuate my innocence.

As their canoe reached land, both passengers immediately jumped off into the shore and gestured at me to come over.

I jumped down and did a few kicks on the boulders to soften my fall and soon reached them.

Parkour baby!

As soon as I got to reaching distance both men immediately grabbed me and started to strip the rags I was wearing and tossing them away to the sandy ground.

What.

...

Is the first thing to happen to me in this world ghey segs?
