I looked down at the dragon, still marveling at its massive size and the warmth of its scales under my hand. A name… what would be fitting for such a magnificent creature? It had to be something strong, something that captured both its power and the unexpected gentleness it had shown me.
"Ember," I said aloud, testing the name on my tongue. The dragon's eyes flicked up to meet mine, as if it recognized the name somehow. "What do you think, big guy? Do you like Ember?"
The dragon let out a soft rumble, almost as if it were agreeing with me. I couldn't help but smile. Ember seemed perfect a name that captured both the fiery nature of the dragon and the warmth that now radiated between us.
"Ember it is, then," I said, giving the dragon one last affectionate pat before stepping back. "Come on, Seraphine, we've got a hike to finish."
