Ciara, trying not to laugh, gave an exaggerated sigh. "Well, we've officially lost Seraphine to a love-induced daze."
But Seraphine only had eyes for me, her attention drifting back as her fingers absentmindedly toyed with a strand of my hair. "Riley…" she murmured, almost wistful.
"Yes?" I asked, genuinely curious as to what was going through her mind.
"I think…" She paused dramatically, as if gathering her thoughts. "I think you're the best thing that's ever happened to me." Her voice was so sincere, her words melting into the quiet warmth of the room.
The laughter from our friends faded as I realised how genuine she was being, despite her slightly tipsy state. I felt a strange mixture of embarrassment and affection. "I'm… I'm glad you think so, Seraphine." I couldn't help smiling as I said it.
"Promise you'll stay forever?" she asked, her voice soft, her gaze piercing despite her relaxed state.
