Chapter 16 - Home?

It didn't take long for us to enter what Charlotte told me was a car. It had a shiny, black color to it, much like the color of the Major's hair. The seating arrangement led me to sit at the back seat whilst Charlotte took one of the two front seats along with the Major. But even though I'm now inside, I can't get over the fact of how these seats feel. It's such a different texture than anything I've felt before. It's soft like the bed, but somehow tough as well? I soon find myself immersed inside the car, touching around everywhere I could see.

"Pfft, hehehe." I could hear Charlotte gigging away as I continue to investigate this car.

"Charlotte, seatbelt."

"Ah- right! Shiro, sit still for a sec." At Charlotte's words, I sit still as she reaches from the front seat before pulling something around me. I hear a 'click' sound shortly after as Charlotte returns to her seat. "There we go."

"Okay, now let's get outa here." The Major soon starts up the car, and in no time at all, we start moving.

I'm no longer able to move around thanks to this 'seatbelt,' but that's fine. Right now, I can't help but stare out the window as I watch all the trees flying past us. There also appears to be no wind inside this car which makes taking in this sight much more appealing. The blue sky filled with clouds... I can stare at this scenery forever.

"I can see why you wanted the girl out."

"Hehe. Well, I just wanted her to have the chance at seeing what it's like outside." The Major and Charlotte begin talking as my eyes catch sight of something flying in the sky.

"Just know that we do have a job to do here."

"I know...." Wait, Charlotte voice seems a bit off just now. Is she okay? I end up taking my eyes off of the window and looking over to the front seats.

"Have you told her?"

"Not yet."

"Hahh~ Charlotte."

"I know, I know~ I just don't want her to worry about that right now. We still have time, right?"

"Yes, but not long."

"Uhm... Time for what?" I couldn't help but ask that after listening in to their conversation. Charlotte turned her head back around before a soft smile appeared on her face. The Major continued to operate the car, keeping her eyes forward.

"Don't worry about that for now, okay?"

"Okay." So it's something trivial I'm guessing? Well, if Charlotte says not to worry then I guess it's fine. I direct my attention back to the window, watching all the trees fly by as I try and find more things in the sky.

"Charlotte, I swear..."

"Tomorrow I'll talk to her about it. Today I just want her to relax."

"Alright."

Suddenly, the view in front of me opens up after the last tree passes by, revealing countless structures in the distance as we appear to be driving down a hill. Many of the structures had many lights, glowing in the distance as I could see other cars driving around there. I'm not sure what it's like over there, but I get the feeling that there's a lot of people there. Are we going there?

In the next ten minutes however, my thought would be answered. We did in fact drive in the direction of that place, but we soon stopped at what looks to be a secluded house not too far away with trees obscuring the house.

"Okay, we're here." Once we drove closer to the house, the car soon stopped as Charlotte reached back over to me to undo my seatbelt. I take a mental note on what she's doing this time so that I don't bother her next time with this seatbelt.

Just like before, after exiting the car, Charlotte takes my hand before we follow the Major into the house.

"Home sweet home~" The Major exclaims before dumping her bag onto a couch before laying on it herself.

"Thank you again, Lisa." Lisa? Is that the Major's name?

"Don't worry about it, haha. I trust you can handle the rest?"

"Yes."

"Then you two can take the room upstairs towards the back. I'm going to sleep for a bit if you don't mind."

"Okay. Let's go, Shiro."

With Lisa still laying on the couch, Charlotte and I start making our way upstairs as we soon arrive inside a room. The room is much different than the room we were staying in before, but that's no problem for me as I quickly make my way over to the window while Charlotte closes the door.

"Hehe. This will be where we'll stay for now." Looking out the window, I could see an open area with tress surrounding the outside of it. I can even see more of the birds flying from one tree to the other. "Hehe, you like it?"

"Mm." I nod my head without taking my eyes off of the sight while watching a bird feed it's babies.

"Now we will have to share this bed. But it is a double, so I think we can manage."

"Huh?" I then turn around as I then see that we do in fact have only one bed. However it is quite large, looking to be the size as if both of our beds in that other room were to combine.

"I'll take the side closest to the door, I'll let you have the window side, hehe."

"H-how long are we staying here for?" To be honest, I really love it here. Even now I have the urge to turn back around and look out the window once more.

"All depends on where we need to go."

"Huh?"

"I'll explain tomorrow. For now just relax."

At her words, I turn back around and enjoy the view once more. I really hope we can stay here...
