Chapter 40 - Chapter 39:The void

Toneri found himself floating in an endless, black void. No this was no ordinary darkness; it was the space between realities, a place where time and space held no meaning. He had attempted to cross dimensions after the little mission with the team and explore a bit due to his curiosity using the signature one of his clones had found with Amenosakeme (Heavenly Rift), a technique to open paths between worlds. Yet, something had gone terribly wrong.

The void was a realm of utter silence and oppressive emptiness. Toneri looked around him and thought, 'How'd I get here?' The moment he appeared in this space, he felt countless gazes upon him instantly, probing his very essence and being. A force tried to invade his body, mind, and soul, as if the void itself sought to consume him. His Tenseigan pulsed, and he unleashed a torrent of chakra, eradicating the darkness that morphed into abominable horrors.

A chilling laughter echoed through the void, a sound so malevolent it threatened to drive any who heard it to madness. Emerging from the depths of the void, an entity began to take shape. This being, known as the Empty Hand, radiated a presence that made the air heavy, if there was any in the void that is and the darkness even more oppressive.

"What is a godling such as you doing here?" the Empty Hand intoned, his voice a resonant murmur that seemed to reverberate through the void and vibrate through Toneri's very soul.

Normally, one shouldn't be able to perceive a higher-dimensional entity or even survive being in the presence of one unless they were of a higher existence themselves. Toneri's Tenseigan pierced through the darkness, revealing the form of the Empty Hand sitting on a dark throne, his gaze fixed on Toneri.

"What is this place?" Toneri demanded.

"You are in the Great Darkness, little god," the Empty Hand replied. "The space between spaces and the primordial darkness that exists between all realities."

Toneri looked around, his thoughts racing. His senses felt incredibly dull, as if something—or someone—was blocking them. 'Someone is blocking my senses,' he thought, narrowing his eyes. "So you are the one who pulled me here."

The Empty Hand laughed, a chilling sound that sent shivers through the void.

"Yes, imagine my surprise when I felt a power unlike anything I have ever encountered in the multiverse opening rifts between dimensions multiple times attempting to crossover—and not just any entity, but a foreign god without any affiliation."

As the Empty Hand continued speaking, Toneri thought, 'So that's the presence my clone felt was watching him as he opened those portals to the various sequences of this current universe.'

"The power I just felt from you is delectable," the Empty Hand said, his tone darkening. "Submit to the darkness or be devoured."

Toneri looked at the Empty Hand defiantly, his chakra flaring and unleashed around him. "No."

"Hmnp," the Empty Hand scoffed. The void came to life as Countless horrors formed in the void, resembling eldritch monstrosities, all rushing to devour Toneri. It was as if the whole void awakened, countless eyes opening to look at him and mouths opening to devour him.

Toneri's chakra output increased, a pillar of emerald energy surging up in the Abyss, eradicating all the monsters it touched. His chakra made gravity increase in the void, space seeming to bend due to the overwhelming intensity. His form bled into his Tenseigan Chakra Mode, first form. Since his training with Hamura in the Dragon Palace and the steady absorption of chakra from the void there, his chakra pool was now as much as four Ten Tails put together. Recalling what his sensei Hamura-Dono's taught him on chakra volume and control, realizing how crucial they were now.

Flashback

In the serene Dragon Palace, Hamura observed Toneri practicing his chakra control. "Your chakra volume is immense, Toneri, far surpassing most beings. But without control, it is like a river without banks, powerful yet destructive. You must learn to focus your energy precisely, especially against formidable opponents."

Present

As his chakra radiated off his form, the Empty Hand looked upon him and thought, "Yes, he will please my master." The force of the darkness increased, billions of monsters—every nightmare every human in every sequence of the DC multiverse had ever thought of—were brought to life here and given form.

Toneri stood with his eyes pulsing with power, looking from the encroaching hoard of darkness to the Empty Hand who sat upon his throne. "Tch, I can't take this being lightly," he thought. "My portal doesn't seem to be working just yet." He looked back at the darkness, thinking, "I'll have to deal with this first then."

As the darkness made contact with him, he muttered, "Amenokaguchi" (Heavenly fire force), the opposite of Amaterasu equally powerful and just as deadly, creating strange and powerful white flames that roared to life around him. These flames were capable of burning even other forms of fire and destroying intangible entities. The white flames exploded around him, destroying hundreds of thousands of the void entities in an instant, causing them to shriek in pain

While the flames devoured the monsters, it seemed as though they were being replaced as quickly as they were destroyed. Observing this with his Tenseigan, Toneri thought, 'These creatures are endless. I don't think normal elemental techniques would suffice here.' Holding a hand sign, he kept the white flames up, creating a barrier while assessing his options.

"Particle Style: Atomic Dismantling Jutsu!" Toneri called out, releasing a beam of energy that disintegrated a swath of the void creatures. Yet, the effect was temporary; the void entities reformed and surged forward again.

Toneri floated in the void, surrounded by endless darkness and an onslaught of monstrosities. Trying various techniques to fend off the relentless horde.

"Wind Release: Rasenshuriken!" Toneri created a massive, spinning shuriken of wind chakra and hurled it at the void creatures. The explosion tore through them, but the entities merely reformed and continued their assault.

"Water Release: Water Dragon Bullet!" A dragon made of water surged from his hands, crashing into the horde and sweeping many away, but they reconstituted almost immediately.

He realized only his Tenseigan techniques were effective. 'I can't keep this up forever, this is just a waste of chakra,' he thought, his mind racing. "There must be a way to escape this void." Switching tactics, he began using Yang Release, enhancing his physical attacks with life energy.

"Yang Release: devouring light!" Toneri's hands glowed with life energy which exploded out with a roaring intensity, and with a sweep of his arm, he created a wave of radiant energy that disintegrated the void creatures upon contact. The radiant light tore through the darkness, leaving a temporary clearing.

Moving swiftly through the void, Toneri effortlessly avoided the tendrils and bounds that erupted around him at intervals. 'These creatures are endless,' he thought. 'Their numbers seems overwhelming even with the damage I keep inflicting. Tch,'

His eyes widened as he noticed the monsters pooling together, merging in the millions and then billions to form entities as large as continents. Two of them even grew to the size of planets, their shadowy bodies looming ominously in the void. These new titans surged forward to attack Toneri, their massive forms blotting out the surrounding darkness.
