Chapter 26 - IN THE DAWN'S SILENCE

The next morning, Astoria was alive with activity. The sun had barely risen, casting a soft, pale light over the bustling castle grounds. Servants hurried to and fro, preparing for the day's events, while soldiers conducted their morning drills with a sense of purpose and urgency.

In the pre-dawn darkness, Elara made her way to the secluded training ground she had grown so familiar with. The air was cool and crisp, the stillness of the early hour broken only by the rustling of leaves and the distant calls of birds waking from their slumber. Clad in simple training clothes, Elara moved with practiced grace, her wooden practice sword an extension of her body.

Despite her father's stern command to cease her training, Elara couldn't abandon her passion. She needed this time, this solitary hour of exertion and focus, to clear her mind and prepare herself for the challenges ahead. As she swung her sword through the air, each movement precise and controlled, she felt a sense of calm wash over her.

As the light of dawn began to creep over the horizon, Elara completed her session, breathing heavily but feeling invigorated. She knew the risks of defying her father's orders, but she also knew that this training was essential for her, both physically and mentally. It was her way of preparing for the battles that lay ahead, both within and outside the castle walls.

Later that morning, the castle's courtyard was abuzz with the arrival of Prince Theron, General Hawke, and a contingent of warriors. They were engaged in serious discussion, their faces set in grim determination as they reviewed maps and strategized. Elara watched from a distance, her curiosity piqued by the intensity of their conversation.

Suddenly, Thaddeus appeared, striding into the courtyard with a swagger that belied his true intentions. He approached the group with a confident air, his presence immediately commanding attention. Elara's eyes narrowed as she observed her half-brother's interaction with the visiting prince and the general. Thaddeus' motives were always suspect, and his sudden interest in military affairs was unusual.

Thaddeus joined the discussion, his voice carrying across the courtyard as he offered his own insights and suggestions. Elara couldn't hear the specifics of their conversation, but she could see the way Prince Theron and General Hawke regarded him—warily, but with a measure of respect. It was clear that Thaddeus was making an effort to position himself favorably, to present himself as a valuable ally in the face of the Valorian threat.

As the morning wore on, Elara found herself torn between her desire to join the discussions and her need to remain cautious. She knew that her presence might complicate matters, especially given the recent tensions with her father and the rumors that had been circulating. But she also knew that she had a unique perspective and skills that could prove invaluable in the days to come.

For now, Elara decided to bide her time, to watch and wait. She would find her moment to contribute, to prove her worth as both a warrior and a princess. And when that moment came, she would be ready. After that thought , she exhaled deeply and walked away, heading back to her chambers. She needed to clean herself up and prepare for her duties as a princess.
