The voice echoed from the very stones around them. It was deep and authoritative, as if the very structure itself had spoken. It took them out of their reverie as they looked at each other and scanned their surroundings. Their eyes searched the towering walls, the columns, and even the dark corners where the creeping vines thickened.
But no matter where they looked, they found no sign of anyone—or anything—that could have spoken. After saying that word, there was silence for a while, and the two of them were standing there, their eyes constantly in search. There was someone, as they could sense someone's gaze on them. That very presence was making everything around them feel heavy.
