Chapter 21 - Perhaps a dream

Small drops of blood soaked Ertex's finger as he slowly pushed it into her neck.

"Unbelievable! It seems like no one wants to save you. What a sad world we live in, eh?"

The woman's eyes were shaking as she looked at every single point in the sky she could see, hoping to get saved, hoping for someone to just wake her up and realize that all of this was just a sick nightmare made up by her brain.

But nothing happened. All she felt was a burning sensation in her neck.

She didn't want to accept it. First, she was left alone as her whole team died, then she found out that everything she knew about the Lord was a lie, and now a psycho was about to kill her just for him to prove his point, while the person she prayed to all her life was presumably just laughing at her right now.

.

.

.

She hated it.

She hated everything.

What did she do to end up like that? What wrongs has she committed? She was a nun, for fuck's sake! She always listened to others and tried to make them take the right path! Why should she die like this?

'It's not fair..'

She even compared herself with the man who was slowly killing her, and she found no similarities. They were polar opposites, with him doing all the evil stuff she hadn't even had the courage to think about! So why was he allowed to continue like this?! Why wasn't he the one dying right now?!

"On the contrary, she even likes seeing that! Because being evil is just the easier option. Why wouldn't she do it?"

Her arms gave up, falling around her body.

Was everything he said the truth? You had to give up on your humanity... if you wanted to survive here?

.

.

.

She let out a small laugh.

That was just depressing, really. Living your life with the thought that you are doing the right thing, only to be brutally woken up and realize that there was only one way of living accepted from the beginning. It seemed that you had control over your life, that you could make the choice you wanted... but the truth was depressing.

She would have clenched her fists, but she had no strength left. Her eyes slowly lost color, but a tiny hint of desire was born.

"Hey... don't... kill me.."

"..."

"I... want to.. live.."

Ertex placed his head on her shoulder.

"Lost your faith already?"

"Please.. I'll do.. whatever you want.. but please let me.. have my revenge.. I'll show them.. I swear I will..."

"... You will?"

All she could do was nod, not capable of talking anymore. The only reason she was even standing up right now was because of Ertex.

She found it harder and harder to breathe, but she didn't want to give up anymore. She knew she shouldn't, but she hoped the man would let her live.

While she was clinging to the remaining hope she had, she was unable to see the smile Ertex had on his face.

"Alright~"

He took his finger out of her neck, licking the blood he had on it. The woman, however, only felt worse.

"Oh, right. Umm... Heal?"

[Healing (Error)

You are able to heal everything and everyone.]

He placed his hand on her wound, instantly making it disappear. The woman regained the color in her eyes and could finally breathe again. She touched the spot on her neck where she once had a hole, feeling relieved when she didn't feel it. She then turned around to look at Ertex.

"What? You want to kill me too?"

"... Shouldn't I?"

He laughed, nodding.

"Of course you should. Now go and sleep, Rissa. You've got a lot to do from now on."

Ertex left, leaving the woman alone, asking herself how he knew her name. He didn't walk for long, though, as a head hit his chest.

She could feel everything shaking, but she has no idea why. She looked around, seeing many faces that had stress and fear placed on them. There were only women, but one stood out from the rest. It wasn't that she looked better than any of them, as they all had the same level of beauty, but what made her stand out was her hair.

The woman had a very, very dark shade of black hair.

'It's even darker than his...'

She saw the woman crying and clenching her fists. She had no idea what was happening, but it seemed like no one was able to see her as she was slowly walking past some of them. She could hear many whispers, but there was one thing that caught her attention.

"P-please stop!"

She looked back, seeing that the person who spoke was the woman with black hair.

"Get your shit together! We are way past the talking part! You are one of the only ones that can at least hold him back a bit, so do it already!"

"I CAN'T!"

Wanting to know what was happening, she looked towards the place the woman looked.

Corpses.

Many of them.

They were unrecognizable.

She would've had no idea these corpses were humans before, if not for the atmosphere and what the women were talking about.

A foot stepped on one of them, and then another one. The culprit's legs then began to slowly approach them. She looked up, trying to see who he was, only to feel her heart drop.

She knew that man very well. She sees him every day. She even fell asleep on his chest this night.

'What... is happening?'

Arga was left even more confused. The man she saw was, supposedly, Ertex. There was something wrong with him, however. He looked exactly the same, but his face was different.

She saw him fight lots of times before. She knew he loved it, and she knew he always showed it when he fought. But now... he showed nothing. His face was expressionless. His eyes empty. No trace of the thrill she was used to see. Right now, it seemed as if he had no soul, as if... his body was moving on its own accord.

Even if she knew he would never lose, for her, based on how he looked before, he seemed to be beatable.

But now he truly was unstoppable.

As he was walking towards them, he was stopped by someone hitting his face with her knee. Standing in a handstand on his shoulder, she then smashed both her knees into his face, bringing him to the ground. She then started a barrage of blows, using her punches, elbows, legs as she tried her hardest to take him down.

"Come on, please! Wake up!"

Terrifying.

To be able to destroy the fabric of reality with the shockwaves alone, yet to not leave even a single scratch on your opponent.

Trully terrifying.

Though this wasn't the reason Arga was so surprised.

'... Why is she here?'

It seemed like she knew who that woman was.

"Huh?"

Arga was unable to register that someone suddenly appeared in front of her, just hearing the woman's voice. When she did, saying she was surprised would be an understatement.

No one was able to see her, seeing how they all looked confused when Ertex appeared in front Arga. He was looking directly into her eyes, paralyzing her on the spot. Why was he able to see her? Arga didn't understand. Not like she could anyway.

She felt her heart stop when Ertex slowly stretched his arm, as if trying to grab her face.

"Wake up."

Arga jolted awake, trying to catch her breath. She felt like she was just about to die when she suddenly heard a voice, waking her up.

"He wasn't supposed to see you. Guess he's too strong, eh?"

Arga massaged her tamples as she one again heard that voice.

"... Who are you?"

"Don't worry about it. Just keep in mind that what you've seen may or may not happen!"

Silence then filled the room.

Only after calming down did Arga realize that Ertex wasn't in the room anymore. She got up and went to the bathroom, washing her face with some cold water and taking a deep breath.

Arga then left the house, trying to find Ertex.

.

.

.

"You worry too much, really."

Arga rolled her eyes, yet she didn't leave his embrace.

"Let's get back to the bed."

"Stop leaving, will you?"

Ertex chuckled, patting her on the back.

"Maybe, maybe."

They went back to the bed, with Arga once again placing her head on his chest. Ertex was now playing with her hair, making her once again fall asleep instantly.

He looked up, as if ignoring the ceiling...

.

.

.

... almost seeing a smirk.
