Chapter 1 - Chapter One: Beginning of the end

Savanna stood on the platform, his slender form dwarfed by the bustling chaos of the train station. He clutched his worn suitcase tightly, his heart racing with a mixture of excitement and trepidation. Mara was a city of legends, a vibrant metropolis where dreams were forged and destinies rewritten. For a teenage gazelle from a small boarding school in the countryside, it was the beginning of a new chapter.

The train whistle blared, signaling the departure of the last connection to his old life. Savanna took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the moment. He was leaving behind the familiar corridors of his school, the friends he had grown up with, and the routine that had shaped his childhood. But the prospect of living with his uncle, Jomba, and experiencing the wonders of Mara was a siren call he couldn't resist.

Jomba, a middle-aged antelope with a sturdy build and a kind smile, was waiting just beyond the platform. He waved enthusiastically, his antlers gleaming in the midday sun. "Savanna! Over here!"

Savanna's worries melted away as he rushed to embrace his uncle. Jomba's presence was a comforting anchor in the sea of unfamiliar faces. "Uncle Jomba, it's so good to see you!"

"Welcome to Mara, Savanna! We've got a lot to catch up on, but first, let's get you settled." Jomba led Savanna through the crowded station, the city's rhythm already pulsing around them.

Mara was a city like no other. The streets were alive with anthropomorphic animals of all kinds—wolves in business suits, rabbits hurrying to appointments, and birds weaving through the air with messages. The architecture was a blend of modern skyscrapers and historic buildings, each street corner offering a new marvel. Savanna's eyes widened as he took it all in.

They reached Jomba's apartment in a modest but lively neighborhood. The building was old but well-kept, with flower boxes in the windows and a friendly buzz of activity. "Home sweet home," Jomba announced as they entered the cozy space.

That evening, over a simple dinner of greens and fruits, Jomba shared stories of the city and his work. "I run a small moving company, nothing fancy, but it pays the bills. You'll be helping me out, won't you?"

Savanna nodded eagerly. "Of course, Uncle. I'm looking forward to it."

The next morning, Savanna was up early, ready for his first day on the job. Jomba's moving company, Swift Movers, was a humble operation with a couple of trucks and a tight-knit crew. Savanna was quickly introduced to the team and assigned to help with a significant job—a delivery to the royal mansion.

As they drove through the city, Jomba shared whispers about the crown prince, Kali. "He's a young lion, about your age, but with a reputation. They say he's not like the rest of the royal family. More... intense."

Savanna felt a shiver of anticipation. He had never imagined he would be this close to royalty. The mansion loomed ahead, an imposing structure surrounded by lush gardens and high walls. They drove through the gates, the grandeur of the estate taking Savanna's breath away.

Unloading the goods was hard work, but Savanna was determined to prove himself. As they moved a heavy crate towards the mansion's rear entrance, a sudden, primal roar shattered the calm. The air grew thick with tension as a shadowy figure emerged from the trees.

"Predator!" someone shouted. Panic erupted. The figure—a hulking, feral predator with eyes blazing—charged towards them. Savanna's heart pounded in his chest as he dropped the crate and ran. He could hear the screams of his uncle and the crew, the brutal sounds of the attack echoing in his ears.

Desperation fueled his legs as he sprinted towards the mansion, slipping through a side door and into the dimly lit interior. He stumbled through the corridors, the opulence around him a stark contrast to the terror outside. He found a small room and locked himself inside, collapsing to the floor, his breath ragged.

Hours passed in silence. When he finally dared to venture out, the mansion was eerily quiet. He crept through the halls, his senses on high alert. In a grand study, he discovered something that chilled him to the bone—trophies of herbivores, meticulously arranged and cataloged. Among them were personal items that had belonged to his uncle's crew.

His blood ran cold as he realized the truth. Prince Kali, the crown prince, was not just any predator. He was a hunter, reveling in the forbidden thrill of the chase and the kill. Savanna's world tilted as the gravity of the situation settled over him. He had to warn the others, to stop Kali before more lives were lost.
