Chereads / The Rebirth of The Heavenly Princess / Chapter 2 - Jade Sunrise

Chapter 2 - Jade Sunrise

When was the last time I felt the sun on my face? To be disturbed by the warm awakening that the morning sun would give me?

Since my birth I never had anything like discomfort caused by anything when waking up, let alone a trifle like sunlight.

But this was the first time I felt annoyed----.

I open my heavy eyelids slowly.

I can barely resist the incandescence produced by the sunlight in my eyes, and by simple reflex I bring a hand in front of them to protect them from the light they are receiving.

"Uh..."

A pitiful noise comes out of my mouth. I feel... sore...?

I've never felt pain in my body like this before. It can't compare to when I've been attacked with a celestial weapon... or even forbidden weapons. It's simple pain all over my body...

I don't understand it.

Using my other available arm, I do my best to get up from wherever I am.

I thought I had died, but I guess someone was able to take care of the problem in the palace and found me before I passed on to the afterlife. I bet all my life's fortune ended there.

"Lin Mei, it's time to wake up! I need your help in the orchard and then I want you to accompany me to the market."

I manage to hear a voice that for some strange reason sounds familiar?

Where will I be?

Looking more closely, now that there is no sunlight hitting my face, I don't see any trace of my ordinary clothes... it's simple peasant clothes I'm wearing...

My hands, they feel rough... they are full of calluses, they are not the hands of a high society lady.

"Click.

The door opens, and through it walks an old lady with her black hair full of grey. Dressed in peasant clothes just like me. Seeing me with her topaz-coloured eyes, a smile spreads across her face.

"Oh, you got up on your own. Good morning, daughter. Go wash your face and get ready for the garden. This year's rice harvest is ready."

Huh...?

She's not my... mother...

Memories of my last minutes of life suddenly come back to my head. Along with... The murderous intentions I felt at that moment...

Oh. I see.

I did end up dead after all. Well, it's not such shocking news to me. But what strikes me is my current situation, I somehow woke up in the body of a girl named Lin Mei.

Ah, maybe it's because of my ability, "Samsara of Reincarnation". That means that my soul travelled through every realm until it returned to a human body. I just find it strange that I wasn't born...

Or maybe it could be that only my memories have returned at this point in this life. How many years would have passed then? A century maybe?

I have no idea who "Lin Mei" is, there are only a few vague memories that don't match at all. This person's story I can't sort out.

[Memory retrieval complete. Skills and attributes could not be transcribed].

A window opened in front of my eyes, indicating what I was already guessing. So my memories have been recovered.

I feel a bit bad now...

"All right. I'll go. Wait for me outside, mother."

I say, feigning a smile. To which the woman I'll now be referring to as my mother only puts on a curious expression.

"Oh? What's with the formality? That's the first time I've heard that tone of voice from you."

"I woke up... something different today... No big deal."

Mother assesses me relaxedly with her gaze, after a few minutes, she gives me a smile and says goodbye, saying she'll wait for me outside.

I drop my shoulders then...

"Hah..."

I exhale the breath I've been holding all this time. I don't think I've made a good interaction with her.

I get out of bed, and...

(Thump.)

I fall to one of my knees. I could barely manage not to fall all the way down.

Uh... so this is what it means to be in a mortal body. I can't keep my balance properly.

Wow, so this is the way things are here, huh...

It can't be that hard.

First I have to learn about the things of this world. And find a way to return to the Immortal World to fulfill my revenge. This weight I feel in my body will be the beginning of everything. My soul burns with the excitement of all the new things I'm feeling.

I turn my gaze to the window, where the jade sun shines brightly through the mountains. A real smile spreads across my face.

Wow, this could be a lot of fun after all.
