The next morning, Eliza stood in front of the mirror, smoothing down her blouse and taking a deep breath. Today was the day she would return to work, and though she felt a mixture of excitement and anxiety, she was determined to face it head-on. Vaughn, standing behind her, adjusted his tie and watched her intently.
"Are you sure you don't want me to walk you to your desk?" he asked, his concern evident.
Eliza turned to him with a smile. "Vaughn, if you walk me in, everyone will start talking about us. I need to ease back into things, and I don't want the extra attention."
"I don't mind if they know," Vaughn said, stepping closer and wrapping his arms around her. "I want everyone to know you're mine."
Eliza blushed and shook her head. "I appreciate that, but let's keep it professional for now, okay?"
Vaughn sighed but finally relented. "Fine. But I'm walking you to the door."
