Vaughn shook his head, the weight of his responsibility for Eliza bearing down on him. "Dad, I need to go," he insisted, his voice was laced with urgency.
His mother, Emery, who was serving him breakfast, turned to him. "Stay for a few days... Vaughn, you don't even come home that often."
Nick nodded, "Listen to your mother, son. We also miss you."
Vaughn's heart ached at their plea, but he felt conflicted between his heart and his family's longing. "But Dad..." he started, his voice faltering slightly.
Nick shook his head. "No buts. Stay here for a few days."
Vaughn still tried to reason, his desperation clearly creeping into his voice. "Dad, there's a lot of pending work..."
Nick nodded in understanding but he remained firm. "Let Alexei and Jannie handle the work."
