Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: The Berserkers of Veed

This is a mixed unit from the Kingdom of Veed, named so because it comprises regular troops under the lord and recruited pirates, totaling over fifty men.

The lord is the nobleman Erikson of the Kingdom of Veed.

Erikson was quite unlucky. With over seventy men, he had just entered the territory of the Kingdom of Saint Martin when he encountered several units of the Kingdom of Saint Martin in quick succession.

How could a lord of the Kingdom of Veed possibly cower?

Whoever is timid is a grandson! Come on!

In the end, only more than twenty soldiers were left, and they had no choice but to recruit pirates on the spot to increase their numbers.

Now he was preparing to continue his march, recruiting some pirates and deserters along the way.

As a result, a unit appeared on the horizon.

He took a closer look and was taken aback.

Damn it, the dozens of people on the other side are all cavalry. His luck was really bad. He actually encountered a full cavalry unit in the wilderness.

Erikson quickly looked around for cover and high ground.

Unfortunately, the terrain here was unexpectedly flat.

"This is bad, trouble is brewing."

This was Erikson's initial reaction. The people of Veed were very brave, but they were not fools. Previously, they had encountered several lords, each with just a dozen or two dozen cavalrymen. Under those circumstances, they could certainly fight.

But now, the other side was a fully-organized cavalry unit in the wilderness, and Erikson only brought along a large group of pirate auxiliary troops. It would be strange if he could win.

Suddenly, Erikson saw the other side's flag and the mantles on the other side's body.

It's actually a knights' order.

He was a little puzzled and asked his men, "Which knights' order is that?"

His men squinted their eyes and then activated their brains, which were about to be overwhelmed by muscles. "My lord, I have never seen this knights' order. It should be a small knights' order without any fame."

"Huh, it turned out to be a small knights' order, scared me."

Hearing what his men said, Erikson was firm in his thoughts. Yes, the other side seemed to be well-equipped, but it was a new knights' order with a weak middle core.

Such knights' orders are generally not strong in strength. They may be the sons of rich families who spend a lot of money playing house.

"Are you sure you've never seen that flag before?" Erikson asked his men once more, not sure of the answer.

All of his men shook their heads, and some had already taken out their axes and looked at Alexander's knights' order, as if looking at a big fat sheep ready for slaughter.

This knights' order had just been established, indicating a lack of combat experience, yet their well-equipped appearance suggested that their master was wealthy. If they could capture the flashy knight in the front wearing shiny armor, they would make a fortune on this trip.

Anyway, they couldn't outrun the other side. Even if they pumped themselves full of adrenaline, their two legs couldn't outrun those four-legged creatures on the other side. So Erikson simply shouted loudly, "Warriors of Veed!"

"Ahu!"

His men roared with all their might, their expressions exaggerated and fierce, like beasts ready to devour prey.

This was the battle cry of the warriors of the Kingdom of Veed, completely different from the slogans of other countries. Why was the battle cry of the people of Veed so simple? They certainly wouldn't tell you it's because their entire country can't produce cultured individuals who can write impressive battle cries. They would only say that the war cry symbolizes the most primitive wildness of humanity and the most instinctual instinct for killing.

After roaring, each of those guys went crazy and charged towards Alexander's knights' order.

This caught Alexander off guard. It was the first time he had seen someone dare to charge a cavalry unit head-on.

"I will follow this path!"

Alexander raised his lance, a declaration of war. His voice was loud, echoing across the entire battlefield. The small flag on his lance, symbolizing the path of redemption, gleamed brightly in that moment.

His warhorse charged forward, leading the charge, at the forefront of his soldiers.

"Until the end!"

Everyone shouted and followed Alexander's charge.

This was the battle cry devised by Alexander. When Geoffrey asked him about the origin or significance of this phrase, Alexander calmly replied, "It comes from a celebrity named Yasuo."

Seeing Geoffrey a bit confused, Alexander explained further. Yasuo was a master swordsman who had grasped the essence of life and death. Throughout his life, he adhered to a principle: "Death is like the wind, always by my side."

Impressed, Geoffrey admired the profundity of this concept. In his mind, the image of a master swordsman quickly emerged.

Alexander would never tell Geoffrey that this so-called master swordsman often achieved excellent records of 0-21-0 in battles.

However, regardless of that, Yasuo's line seemed oddly fitting for their knights' order.

The sound of horses' hooves echoed in unison as over forty cavalrymen formed a wedge formation and charged towards Erikson's troops, like arrows released from a bowstring, swift as lightning, and powerful as thunder.

Erikson's hot blood rushed to his head, only to be instantly cooled as if doused with cold water. He widened his eyes, incredulously watching the enemy's orderly charge.

At that moment, only one thought occupied his mind: "This is bad, they are elite."

...

Fifteen minutes later, Erikson was tied up and thrown onto a horse.

Alexander, satisfied with gathering all the spoils, looked at the system notification.

[Congratulations, Lord, on winning this battle]

[Rewards: Experience +1000, System Coins +1000]

Though not substantial, these were additional rewards besides the spoils. After all, just Erikson's ransom alone was at least 2000 denars. With various spoils and captives, the harvest from this battle was quite rich.

Alexander's attributes panel now read:

[Level]: 8

[Strength]: 12

[Agility]: 10

[Intelligence]: 6

[Charisma]: 9

[Available Attribute Points]: 0

[Experience]: 12100/12800

[System Coins]: 11000

However, it wasn't all gains. Eight of Alexander's men died on the spot, and nine were injured.

It must be admitted that Erikson's direct subordinates were quite fierce. In addition to the 30 pirates recruited temporarily, he had five berserkers, seven wolf warriors, and eight Veed soldiers.

(Assorted from recruits to Veed berserkers)

Among them, the berserkers were the most formidable. Just by their name, it was clear they were reckless daredevils.

Actually, most of Alexander's losses were caused by the berserkers. These berserkers aren't necessarily just skilled in close combat; they use a combination of brute force and technique to hurl heavy throwing axes, which can even shatter shields on impact. Alexander was also to blame for being too stingy; he equipped his soldiers with ordinary Martinian light cavalry-style round shields, which definitely couldn't withstand the berserkers' heavy throwing axes. And Alexander was somewhat puzzled by how these berserkers managed to grow so robust in the resource-scarce Veed Kingdom, and why they, in such cold weather, would only wear a black wolf hide draped over their shoulders. They were truly a force to be reckoned with!
