Chapter 7 - The cafe

"Let's go someplace else." The man said to Arthur. He started walking, and Arthur followed silently. He wanted to see if the man in front of him was the talkative type and would give up any information about what's going on without Arthur saying anything about himself. There was no doubt that this man was linked to the new crisis or at least was an enchanced human himself, it'd explain how he didn't even move after Arthur's attack down in the tomb, and how he was smart enough to learn how to speak in a couple hours. But there was one question that needed to be answered, how did he get to England with no identity, passport or such.

After a couple minutes of walking, the man stopped abruptly. "Actually, do you know anywhere we can eat? I'm famished." Arthur said yes and started walking to a restaurant far away from his house, university or any location he or his friends frequent. He got to a posh looking cafe and walked inside.

"Welcome to Cafe Fiori! What would you like?" The cashier was a bit too excited. Arthur didn't repond, he realised that the cashier was a woman in his department, and both their families knew each other. He didn't expect to see a classmate of his working in the evening. 'Damn it'

Arthur was condemning his own decision, but she didn't show any reaction that'd hint she knows him, she's a professional through and through. He began looking at the menu above him. "Can I have a large latte with no sugar and one slice of raspberry cake, thank you." A deep voice responded.

Arthur was pretty amazed that the man could order by himself, considering how long he's been in the modern world.

"A medium cappuccino with a custard-filled croissant for me please."

"Ok so a large latte no sugar, one medium cappuccino, a rapberry cake and a custard-filled croissant. Anything else?" The cashier smiled brightly. Alexia herself was a bright person. She was extremely popular back when they were in school together and extremely popular in university. Part of that popularity was because of how kind and smart she was, the other part was because of how pretty she was. She had elegant brown hair with emeral green eyes that gave off a feeling of wisdom. Even Arthur was swayed by her beauty, but only under normal circumstances. Right now he was next to a dangerous man for all he knows. All those scars which were hidden below that jacket and gloves did not appear without fighting, and those scars told him that the man seemed to be at the apex of combat.

"No that's it. How much is it in total?" Arthur returned with a blank face.

Looking dejected, the cashier responded; "Twenty pounds on the dot." She placed the card reader in front of them.

Before Arthur could even pull out his phone to pay, the man tapped a bank card on the reader and said; "Thank you Ms Alexia."

Arthur's heart skipped a beat, trying to figure out how he knew her name until he realised that she had a name tag on her uniform. And now that he was done worrying about that, he was was wondering how the man got his hands on a bank card, as far as he knew proof of identity was needed to get a bank card, so he might've just stolen it instead.

"You're welcome! Please take a seat over there and you will be served shortly." she said as she pointed towards a window booth. He and the man started walking towards it, Arthur thankful that she didn't try to talk to him. On his way to the booth, he felt Alexia staring at him. No doubt she wanted to know how he was doing. She was also on the trip to Egypt so she must have known how he passed out in a library, but fortunately she didn't press on the matter, especially in front of the man who might've caused it.

Arthur and the man sat on opposite ends of the booth. The cafe was adorned with many fake flowers, staying true to its name. It had a modern look to it, with smooth marble floors and walls, lit up by dim lighting. As they sat, Arthur felt the man resting his eyes on him, studying him as Arthur was looking out the window. It took only two mintures for the food to come, but it was a long two minutes of awkward silence, neither of them said anything to each other. They both thanked Alexia, with Arthur realising she gave him two croissants instead of one. An innocent product of goodwill, an action of goodwill which might've told the man that they knew each other. Alexia told them to enjoy their stay and went back behind the counter, ready to take another customer's order.

The man took a sip of his Latte, and seemed pleased with it. Then he told Arthur with a smile; "You can call me Niles. You must have many questions for me."

The man seemed to be inviting Arthur to start questioning him, he was smiling and his body language signalled that he was relaxed, but the look in his eyes told something different. But regardless, Arthur was determined to get some answers.
