Chereads / Shadows Of Vengeance / Chapter 4 - Departure

Chapter 4 - Departure

The Aether clan has always been the most powerful clan in the kingdom.

They possess a diverse range of elemental powers, making them unmatched in strength and versatility.

They have always been above all but remain loyal to the royal family for generations.

They were also the head of the four clans, which were five before, and even the people adore them.

The Aether clan's influence and legacy are deeply rooted in the history of the kingdom, with their members holding key positions in governance, military, and society.

All these factors made the others jealous, and the royal family feels threatened.

The nobles, envious of the Aether clan's prestige and fearful of their potential, have conspired to bring them down.

The Aether clan's unwavering loyalty to the royal family has not shielded them from the growing animosity and suspicion.

Despite their contributions to the kingdom's stability and prosperity, their power has become a double-edged sword, drawing admiration from the common people but fostering resentment among the elites.

Days turned into years, and the once-great power of the Aether clan began to fade.

Although it didn't bring the family down immediately, generation after generation was born with little to no power.

This gradual decline left the family in its current weakened state.

John never really knew what happened; after all, he was born at a later stage when the decline was already well underway.

In the past, the magic allowed members of the Aether clan to live incredibly long lives, but this was no longer possible for them.

They had become more like ordinary humans, apart from Alex.

He was born different, with the potential to restore their family's former glory.

This was why they had to suppress his power, but it seems that word has reached the ears of their enemies.

They want to eliminate us before he grows and seeks revenge.

John decided to call his wife because he was sure he wouldn't be able to leave the palace.

As the phone rang, his heart pounded in his chest.

"Joyce," he said urgently when she answered, "you need to take Alex and leave the house immediately.

The royal family and the other clans are coming to annihilate our clan."

Joyce's voice shook. "What about the rest of the clan?"

John swallowed hard. "There's no time to save everyone.

Alex must get to safety. He's the last descendant with our family's blood and power, the one we've suppressed."

Joyce hesitated, then asked, "What about you?"

"I have to stay here and buy you some time. I know it's selfish, but I have no choice. Protect Alex."

Joyce took a deep breath. "Alright. We'll leave right away. I love you, John."

"I love you too, Joyce. Stay safe."

John hung up the phone, his mind racing with the urgency of the situation.

He knew that saving Alex was the key to preserving the Aether clan's legacy and power, even if it meant sacrificing himself and the rest of the clan.

The weight of his decision pressed heavily on his shoulders, but he steeled himself, determined to do whatever it took to give his son a fighting chance.

.....

Joyce's hands trembled as she quickly moved through their small home, gathering the essentials for Alex.

Her mind was racing, filled with fear and urgency.

She opened a suitcase and began packing clothes, some food, and a few personal items for Alex.

"Alex, pack your things quickly," she called out, trying to keep her voice steady.

She heard his footsteps approach, and when he appeared, his face was pale and confused.

"What's going on, Mom?" Alex asked, worry evident in his voice.

Joyce paused for a moment, looking at her son.

"There's no time to explain everything now. Your father called.

We need to leave immediately. It's not safe here."

Joyce hurried through the dimly lit corridors of their enclave, her heart pounding.

She reached the modest home of Eldon, the oldest living member of their clan.

Though not particularly old in the magical world, he was considered elderly by human standards.

His wisdom and knowledge were unmatched within their community.

Knocking softly on the door,

Joyce entered without waiting for a response.

Eldon sat by the fire, his eyes closed in meditation.

He opened them slowly as she approached, a calm but knowing look on his face.

"Eldon, we need your help," Joyce began, her voice shaky with urgency.

"The royal family and the other clans are coming to annihilate us.

We have to get Alex to safety.

"Eldon sighed deeply, as if the weight of the world had finally settled on his shoulders.

"I knew this day would come," he said softly.

"The signs have been there for years.

"He stood up slowly, his movements deliberate and measured.

"Alex," he called, beckoning the boy closer. Alex stepped forward, his eyes wide with a mixture of fear and respect.

"Young Alex, you carry the legacy of the Aether clan within you.

Your power is great, even if it has been hidden. Now, more than ever, you must be strong.

" Eldon placed a weathered hand on Alex's shoulder, his gaze intense.

"Do not be afraid," he continued.

"The path ahead will be difficult, but you must survive.

Our hope lies with you. Remember who you are and where you come from.

Use your power wisely and never forget the love and sacrifice of those who came before you.

"Eldon then raised his hand, uttering a few ancient words.

A soft, golden glow enveloped Alex briefly.

"This blessing will protect you, give you strength in times of need.

Go now, and may the spirits of our ancestors guide and guard you.

"Joyce felt a tear slip down her cheek as Eldon finished his blessing.

She bowed her head in gratitude.

"Thank you, Eldon. We will not forget your words."

Eldon turned to Joyce with a furrowed brow, concern etched into his weathered features.

"What will you do, Joyce? Will you follow Alex to the hidden tunnels?

"Joyce hesitated, her gaze drifting to the floor. "I... I can't leave,

" she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. "I can't leave John.

I have to stay and fight with the clan.

"Eldon's expression softened with understanding, though a flicker of worry remained in his eyes.

"I understand, Joyce. Your loyalty to your husband and the clan is commendable.

But remember, Alex's safety is paramount.

"As Joyce spoke, Alex's eyes widened with realization, tears welling up in his eyes.

He knew something was wrong.

Eldon's reaction to Joyce's decision only confirmed his suspicions.

Fear gnawed at his stomach as he clutched his mother's hand tightly, a silent plea for reassurance.

Eldon nodded solemnly. "Go swiftly, and stay safe. The Aether clan's legacy must endure."
