Leonora felt a sense of accomplishment as she left the garden with Amelia.
She had made a connection, however tenuous, with Thomas, a knight who, despite his slacker demeanor, showed potential. Their brief conversation had planted a seed, and now it was time to see if it would grow.

The next day, Leonora decided to walk through the palace grounds. She walked with a deliberate pace, taking in the sights and sounds of her new home.
As she rounded a corner near the training grounds, she noticed
Thomas leaning casually against a wall, his eyes closed as if he might drift off to sleep at any moment.
"Thomas," she called out, her voice carrying a note of surprise.
He opened his eyes and grinned when he saw her. "Lady Leonora! Back for another walk in the gardens?"
"Something like that," she replied, approaching him. "I thought I might explore more of the palace today."
"Good idea," Thomas said, pushing himself off the wall. "This place is full of interesting spots. Need a guide?"
Leonora smiled. "I wouldn't mind. I'm still getting my bearings."
Thomas nodded, falling into step beside her. "So, what brings a noblewoman like you to the palace? I haven't seen you around before."
Leonora hesitated for a moment, her past life instincts making her cautious. She quickly masked her hesitation with a polite smile. "I'm new here. I've been sent to the palace for... important matters."
"Important matters, huh?" Thomas said, his tone light. "Sounds mysterious."
Leonora chuckled. "Perhaps. But let's just say I'm here to make some changes."
"Well, if you're looking to see more of the palace, I can show you the knights' training grounds," Thomas offered. "It's not every day we get visitors there."
Leonora's interest piqued. "That sounds wonderful. Lead the way."
As they walked, Leonora took the opportunity to observe Thomas more closely. He was a study in contrasts—his playful demeanor and relaxed attitude belied the physical strength and sharp mind she had glimpsed in their previous conversation. His tousled dark hair and striking blue eyes gave him a roguish charm, while his athletic build and broad shoulders hinted at the disciplined training of a knight.
"How long have you been a knight, Thomas?" she asked, genuinely curious.
He shrugged. "A few years now. I joined because, well, it seemed like the right thing to do. But I'm not really cut out for the whole 'hero' thing."
"You seem to have the skills," Leonora observed.
Thomas laughed. "Skills, maybe. Motivation, not so much. I'd rather be napping than fighting most days."
"Perhaps you simply haven't found the right motivation," Leonora suggested.
Thomas looked at her, a spark of curiosity in his eyes. "And what would that be?"
Leonora smiled. "Sometimes, all one needs is a purpose. A reason to rise above the ordinary."
Thomas considered her words as they approached the training grounds. The area was bustling with activity, filled with the sounds of clashing swords and shouting instructors. Thomas led her through the gates and gestured to the wide expanse of the grounds.
"This is where we train," he said. "It's not the most glamorous place, but it's home."
Leonora looked around, taking in the scene. "It's impressive. You must be very skilled to train here."
Thomas shrugged modestly. "I manage. But enough about me. What do you think of the palace so far?"
"It's beautiful," Leonora replied. "And full of opportunities."
Thomas nodded, his playful demeanor momentarily giving way to a more serious expression. "Opportunities can be found anywhere if you know where to look."
Leonora met his gaze, her eyes gleaming with determination. "And I intend to make the most of every opportunity I find."
"Lady Leonora," Thomas said, his tone softening, "you seem like someone with a plan."
"I suppose you could say that," she replied, her voice carrying a hint of mystery.
Thomas smiled. "Well, if you ever need a guide or someone to show you the ropes around here, you know where to find me."
"I'll keep that in mind," Leonora said, genuinely appreciative.
They continued to walk through the training grounds, chatting about the palace and its many secrets. Leonora felt a growing sense of satisfaction. She had made a connection with Thomas, and although he didn't yet know her true identity or her plans, she knew he could be a valuable ally.
For now, she would play the role of the curious newcomer, but in time, she would reveal her true intentions.
