At that moment, all my mind was focused on was to give me another second… no, just a tenth of a second to live. All my focus narrowed to a single line of thought.
The demon's fingers were a hair's breadth away from my body.
Then I spat the blood that pooled in my mouth right in the demon's eye.
"What? Saliva?!" it hissed, recoiling slightly.
A human would've been more shocked, but the demon just wiped his corpse eye with a hand and used the other tree to try reaching for me, anyway.
But then, a roaring wave of flame flew at the demon from above—a technique that immediately struck me with familiarity.
I coughed more blood, wincing from the pain in my lungs, and jumped away. The wave passed so close that I felt some of its searing heat.
