"What are you standing there for? Peeping?" I blurted out.
"Why didn't you greet me when you came back?" Ran Jing asked, still half-asleep.
"You were sleeping like a little pig. How was I supposed to greet you?"
"Why didn't you greet me when you came back?" She was really persistent.
"I came home, saw you asleep on the sofa, and didn't want to wake you. I thought I'd take a shower first, and if you were still asleep, I'd move you to your bed with my freshly cleaned hands." I explained patiently, one sentence at a time. If she weren't so pretty, I'd have lost my temper given my mood today.
"You just want to take advantage of me." She stared at me with her big eyes.
"You're crazy." I didn't want to argue over this nonsense. She'd already let me carry her before, the first time being when I dragged her home drunk. I tried to pass her to go to my room and sleep, as I had to get to the office early in the morning.
"Do it again." Ran Jing still blocked the doorway, refusing to let me pass.
"Do what again?" Was she still half-asleep and not making sense? "Go out and come back in, greet me first, and then go take your shower."
"That's ridiculous. Stop it, it's 2 AM, go to sleep." I tried to push past her.
"No, you have to do it again." Ran Jing remained obstinate, blocking the bathroom door.
Maybe it was the stress I'd been under, or maybe I was just too tired and lost control. I pushed her aside forcefully and said, "How old are you? Stop bothering me!"
I left the stunned Ran Jing and went to my room to sleep. The last look she gave me was a mix of surprise and hurt. She was probably shocked that I had yelled at her, but why she felt hurt, I didn't know. I was too exhausted to think about it. I collapsed onto my bed and fell asleep immediately.
At 7 AM, my alarm went off. For someone like me, who was used to staying up late and sleeping in, getting up early was a real test of willpower. I reset the alarm for 7:15 and decided to skip breakfast and head straight to the office. But those extra 15 minutes of sleep felt like nothing.
I was quite proud of myself; when the alarm rang again, I took only three minutes to get dressed and two minutes to wash up. When I rushed into the living room, I saw a large covered bowl on the table with a note beneath it. The note read:
"You lazy pig,
You sleep like a log. No good deed goes unpunished. I made you the ultimate dish and waited for you till this late, and you dared to lose your temper at me. You've hurt my delicate feelings. How are you going to make it up to me? I want you to feel guilty for 100 days. Hmph.
The one you hurt,
Today"
How could a beauty not even know how to write 'today' correctly? My heart was instantly filled with guilt.
