Chapter 17 - ASHES: 16

'Lucas' sat in his office. It had been a week since he started coming in as him. So far, no one, not even Dan and Mark had noticed him. He had been nervous at first but, now he even wondered why. The large, imposing skyscraper that served as the Decker Group headquarters, should be the one place that its CEO is treated with respect. Yet, it was not. In fact 'Lucas' had never felt so out of place. From his secretaries down to the subordinate staff, no one seemed to give him the respect he deserves. It was as if he was nothing more than a figure head.

There was a lot if work for him and for some reason, his two secretaries never helped. It was hilarious how they would come in the office as late as eleven a.m and leave at one p.m for lunch and never come back till the following day. Today was different, he had four meetings and three teleconferences but had an incredible amount of paperwork that literally buried his desk.

"Mark, Dan, can you do your share of work because at this rate I might collapse in exhaustion. Dan snickered," Collapse then", he muttered under his breath. He rushed towards his boss' desk but stopped and said," I can't I'm busy somewhere else." "Me too", Mark chimed in. 'Lucas' looked at them in disbelief, he was furious. 'What was Lucas to them?' he wondered.

The two men smiled and began to leave. ' Please collapse then I'll have your fiancée for real and fuck her all day everyday' Mark thought as he opened the door. They walked out. 'Lucas' could hardly believe it. 'Its like I'm the secretary and they're my bosses' he thought amusedly. He stood up and was about to smash the cup of cold stale coffee to the ground when he remembered. This was all part of the plan. He had to do it and do it well.

He sighed and sat back down his rather expensive yet rickety office chair and went back to work. ' I wonder what he's doing' he thought fleetingly as he soon immersed himself into work.

In an undisclosed location...

Riley looked around the well lit room. He was scared, no, fearful. The room had an extremely large white board that was filled with a ton of details he hadn't known. It also had pictures of all the people who were about to feel Lucas' wrath. It also had a small fridge, a desk that had the highly powerful untraceable military grade desktop on top of it, two chairs, a large television and a bed at the corner. There was a door at the back end that led to the bathroom.

" Did you bring the final piece"? Lucas, who was sitting behind the desktop working asked without looking up. "Yes Sir", Riley replied nervously. Lucas looked up and smiled. "You don't have to be scared of me. I'm not going to hurt you if anything I should thank you", he said looking at Riley. " Thank me? For what"? he asked. Lucas breathed in then said," For giving me a chance to atone and correct my mistakes," he replied and returned back to work.

Riley was puzzled. 'Atone? To who'? he wondered. Lucas' phone rang. He answered and put it on speaker. It was Drake. " He did it. Jake got a personal invitation to meet the finance minister as well as the one for trade", he said tiredly. " Good. When is the meeting"? Lucas asked curtly. "On Monday next week," he replied. "Ok. I'll see you then," Lucas said and was about to hang up when Drake asked," How did you get these secretaries to work"?

For a moment, Lucas remembered how 'considerate' he'd been, always working their portions well into overtime. Not anymore. " When they arrive tomorrow, call Jake then explain the situation", he hung up. He had work to do.

At precisely eleven a.m, the two secretaries walked in only to find 'Lucas' on the phone." I mean Jay come and see for yourself. I'm knee, scratch that I'm neck deep in work so there's no way I'd come...My secretaries,"? he looked at both Dan and Mark who now looked worried, " Well they're too busy to help me so I'll just ..." "WHAT"!? Jake shouted loud enough for everyone to here. He hung up.

'Lucas' looked at them and smiled inwardly. This was going to be good.
