Sydney sat silently for a few moments, her gaze fixed on Monica as she pondered over her words.
She clicked her tongue, nodding slowly before lifting her eyes to the ceiling, as if searching for the right way to respond.
With a deep breath, Sydney's fingers delicately traced the outline of her necklace, her palm resting gently on it.
She bowed her head, letting her eyes linger on the inscription etched into it. After a long pause, she spoke softly but with conviction.
"Believe me, Monica, I want to tell them everything. I want to explain why I did what I did. But given where we are right now, I think it's best they stay in the dark. That's the only way I can prevent the situation from getting worse."
Monica's eyes softened, but her voice remained firm. "But keeping the truth from them will only hurt them more when they find out from someone else."
Sydney exhaled, frustration creeping into her tone.
